Job Summary

As Facility Manager, you will manage a facility on an enterprise basis, focused on profitability and return on assets. You will lead managers of various disciplines.

What You Will Do:

You will be the Face of the Facility, the single point of contact representing the Caterpillar business to local and state authorities, (safety, environmental, zoning, expansion plans and execution). You are responsible for community engagement, promoting the business and involvement in local businesses and charities. You will work with the state & local agencies for training and employment needs. You are responsible for the business resumption plan. The incumbent will have cross-functional leadership within the facility and be the final voice in the facility for the decision-making process.

You will manage factory operations that may involving any or all of the following manufacturing, assembly, machining, maintenance, fabrications/welding, heat treat, packaging, painting, testing, tooling, scheduling, manufacturing engineering, quality, packaging, warehousing, shipping and receiving. You will provide direction to supervisors of these areas in a manner to ensure efficient operations. You will manage in accordance with established objectives for efficiency, cost, safety, quality, quantity, timeliness and human resources objectives.

You may also have additional responsibility for: human resources, labor relations, supply chain, IT, business resources, purchasing and EHS, either solid or dotted line reporting.

Formulates, develops and implements long-term strategic plans and directions to achieve business objectives for the continuous pursuit of business development opportunities. Develops an integrated annual business plan and ensures continuous monitoring of performance results against business plan, analysing financial and operating results and developing and implementing solutions to business problems. Additionally, is responsible for product sales, marketing and profitability, for pursuing and obtaining business with customers worldwide, as well as Caterpillar, for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and market needs, and for determining product price and negotiating sales transactions. Manages Product and Process Engineering, maintenance of existing designs, prints, etc., as well as the new product introduction process. Maintains design control for assigned commodities.

Manages the various processes, including customer orders, material procurement, scheduling and monitoring manufacturing/assembly operations, ensuring customer satisfaction, developing and maintaining processes, managing the operating systems, etc. Establishes policies, priorities and procedures with counsel from the business unit and division administration. Motivates and trains subordinates along with directing the work force on various policy and operating issues. Approves all items which affect the budget including overtime, tooling, indirect materials, subcontractors, inventory levels, personnel levels, etc. Communicates with various Business Unit and Division Administrative personnel to review and update policy; financial reports, accounting practices and other financial issues; vendors on establishing new suppliers and to resolve production problems and price issues.

Contributes to the planning and scheduling of product for maximum efficiency and ensures efficient integration of factory, material distribution, maintenance and quality to achieve profitable operations of assigned areas.

Ensures the levels of raw materials and work in progress are properly controlled and managed through the implementation of best practice Lean Management.

Participates in the NPI and CPPD process to ensure that shop floor operations are in line with the overall Company strategies. Implement various corporate initiatives such as CPS Assessment, 6 Sigma, Internal Certification, etc.

Position should have good working knowledge of labour rules and regulations, as well as the local and state laws and regulations.

Ensures the development and maintenance of facility environmental compliance policies, state and local permits, and facility equipment to ensure facility adherence to corporate and federal environmental and safety guidelines. Develops, supports and maintains facility equipment maintenance plans and contracts
to ensure availability, safety and quality. Ensures the manufacture of quality products at competitive prices and strives for continual improvement of operations to reduce costs and improve return on assets.

Manages all human resources functions of the facility, including PMI, hiring, training programs, team formation and makeup, promotions, disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. Represents the company in the local community.

The position manages a department through subordinate supervisors/managers and professionals. The incumbent provides direction, focus, motivation, and encouragement for subordinates. The position is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.

Typical internal customers include employees from two or more work groups in a Division. The position’s primary customers are internal. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems which may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Part Quality, ISO 9000 Certification, etc. The position monitors and reports on key quality measures for the measure(s) stated.

What You Have:

Requires a college degree and/or considerable company experience with solid business management skills, plus CPS processes and tools knowledge. Should have a technical understanding of the manufacturing and material selection process, Operations Business System, Lean Capabilities Fundamentals, and IT Business system transformation. In addition, extensive years of progressively responsible job-related experience are typically required. Needs good management, motivational and problem-solving skills along with good human relations and communications skills.
