As a welder you will learn to be fully competent in manual welding using at least one arc process. General Welders are required in a number of sectors for example, the steelwork construction sector, the role covers welding to make high strength joints between two or more parts.
You will learn on the job alongside college and you will work towards the Level 2 Welding Standard.

Duties would include but not limited to;

  • Welding to produce good quality welds using two welding process and positions
  • Position, prepare and check the welding equipment.
  • Work to health and safety requirements
  • Work to common arc welding processes, joint types (fillet, lap, butt, etc.) and positions
  • Completing welding quality documents and reporting systems.

An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence. You will be expected to work towards the General Welder Standard, with support from your employer and Learning Unlimited.

As part of your apprenticeship and dependent on your prior attainment you may be required to complete maths, and English Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship. Upon successful completion you will be awarded an additional certificates of recognition for these qualifications.
