Experienced Small Animal Veterinary SurgeonBasingstoke Vets4PetsOur busy first opinion practice was opened by Jose and his wife Fran back in 2004 and has grown form strength to strength. Jose and Fran qualified in Madrid in 1994 and they moved to the UK shortly afterwards and opened their practice in 2004. Since then we have grown to become a very busy first opinion practice. We have a fantastic team of 7 very experienced vets, who all have different specialities and areas of interest and all of whom enjoy discussing cases and sharing their knowledge and experience with their colleagues. Our vets are supported by a great team of RVNs most of whom we have trained ourselves; we also have a dedicated reception team and a Practice Manager. Our practice is based on the outskirts of Basingstoke and we are surrounded by the beautiful Hampshire countryside. We are also within easy reach of London and the coast. We have worked hard over the last year and a half to improve the work life balance of our team, we gave reduced our opening times to 9-6pm Monday to Saturday so our full time vets now work 4 days a week, with one full day off during the week and one in 3 Saturdays. Apart from a few vaccination appointments, there are no pre-bookable appointments on Saturdays (unless a vet requests this themselves) and we mainly see emergencies or patients that would benefit from being booked in on the day. Saturdays are worked with one other vet, two nurses and two receptionists. There is no sole charge in our practice. We are a well-equipped, modern Practice with the usual toys including dental xray, AO-ASIF kit including air drill (we do most of our orthopaedics), ultrasound machine and multi parameter monitor. In terms of how our days work:9-10am, admits and transfers from OOH (if any).10-1pm, 15 min consults (30 min for complex cases and euthanasia)1-3pm, check your in patients, lunch and admin work. The operating Vet doesn’t have any appointments in the afternoon so usually manages to deal with the ops list but you are free to help between 1-3pm if you want to do your own stuff (ie, ultrasounds or minor procedures)3-6pm, 15 min consultsYou would have 1 operating day and 3 consult days per week. The phones are switched over at 6pm so we have the last hour to do the final catch up of the day. If you are done by 6pm you can go but, honestly, that hardly ever happens.Basically, we close at 6pm so we can go home at 7 rather than closing at 7 to go home at 8pm.We have 18 “book on day” appointments every day; this works very well as it stops us from being fully booked at the beginning of the day and allows sufficient appointments for those cases that really need to be seen.Since March 2020 we have been dealing with the challenges that Covid has presented to us and adapting to Lockdown measures and various Tier system requirements.Currently, to name just a few, clients are not allowed in the consult room unless they are wearing a mask.We aim for 30 min appointments to keep our waiting area quiet.Free home delivery for flea and worming.Phone calls and email consultations as much as possible following the RCVS flowchartFinally, kindness is key in our practice; we are a very close multi-cultural group that respect each other. There is no pre-established hierarchy so whoever joins our team must be a team player and kind to those they work with. For more information please contact our Practice Manager by email fiona.stewart@companioncare.co.uk or alternatively for a confidential chat please phone the practice on 01256 845 834 to speak to our JVP or Practice Manager.Brand: Companion CareLocation: RG22 4TTDNP
