As an Event Planning Manager on a 9-month fixed term contract, you’ll ensure Sainsbury’s has an effective multichannel event plan throughout the year. You will facilitate and drive the work of cross-functional teams to innovate, brief, govern and deliver customer focused events setting overall financial and customer objectives and targets. This role ranges from the big idea that starts a project, to presenting to our board, to chasing the trading team for that last essential product.

In this role you’ll be working with stakeholders at all levels, so you’ll need to be confident in dealing with a wide range of people. We’re looking someone who has a great awareness of the commercial market, who can work in a flexible style that will help us to deal with changing priorities and customer shopping habits.

This role can be based in either Milton Keynes or Coventry; with travel between locations on a regular basis.


More About The Role

  • Responsible for driving strategy, planning and delivery of Events in line with category and customer plans. Including presenting plans and recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Manage the Sainsbury’s Seasonal Aisle on behalf of the broader Sainsbury’s business including being the gatekeeper for space nominations and allocation to trading teams to drive commercial and customer metrics in store environments
  • Working with central group functions to plan and facilitate multichannel Seasonal activity, where relevant, across multichannel trading teams including Argos, Digital and Sainsbury’s food
  • Manage the end to end process of the Event programme for the relevant period from briefing to post implementation review, building recommendations for the future
  • Liaise with the Digital team to develop Event pages in line with the customer proposition which support the commercial product ambition and curate key missions to drive Digital growth
  • Target and drive continual operational improvement and challenge/support the trading teams to deliver stretching growth on Sales and Profit targets
  • Ensure all activity is communicated effectively and accurately to internal commercial and operational colleagues
  • Manage cross functional progress and steering groups – reporting position and highlighting risks as part of the critical path
  • Work with Central Support functions (Supply Chain and CRT) to ensure delivery of events


More About You

  • Ideally experienced in retail events, space or range planning, visual merchandising, marketing or category planning
  • Ability to think strategically about future innovation of a multichannel events plan
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with proven track record of planning, prioritising and delivering to deadlines
  • Ability to effectively plan across multiple stakeholders balancing customer and commercial metrics, as well as managing multiple events at one time
  • Strong commercial acumen including Product, Market and Consumer knowledge
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to flex in line with changing demands
  • Strong MS Excel & Power Point skill set; ability to produce presentations for pre-read and sign off summarised relevant to the stakeholder group
  • Strong line management skills
