Job overview

This is a fast-moving department with high demands and quick reactive responses required.

The successful candidate would be working within a small team of 3 engineers maintaining and repairing laundry and associated equipment. Reporting directly to the laundry management team the Laundry Estates Officer will also get support, training and guidance from our larger Estates team based at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

The laundry department operates several shifts throughout the week, although has limited opening at the weekend and so routinely working will be Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

Duties will involve preventative maintenance, fault finding, repairs and occasional installation work on laundry process plant & equipment.

Maintain effective control within the allocated resources and ensure delivery of cost-effective services in accordance with current best practice.

Responsible for managing laundry engineers and contractors and specialist contractors undertaking a variety of complex work in the health environment.

You should have an electrical engineering background and experience, be able to carry out your duties with the minimum of supervision as a hands-on worker

Duties will involve preventative maintenance, fault finding, repairs and occasional installation work on laundry process plant & equipment.

You may also be required to provide on-call cover to the laundry.

Using your own initiative, knowledge and experience, quantifying, and installing specialist mechanical services, engineering plant and equipment in accordance with current guidance and legislation.

Carry out statutory inspections and testing on engineering plant and equipment, and complete necessary documentation.

Monitor temperatures using handheld data collection device, diagnose faults, recalibrate and carry out repairs to steam gauges, boiler controls and washers, sterilisers and washer disinfectors.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
    • Recognised management qualification.
    • Recognised time served apprenticeship in a related trade or BTEC or ONC or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
    • IOSH Managing Safely Certificate

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Written and verbal communication skills in order to be able to liaise with staff at all levels of the organisation
  • Capable of working in a demand driven service.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Engineering Services Hospital Building Notes Laundry Regulations
  • Knowledge of Hospital Technical Memorandums [HTM’S]

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Computer literate and keyboard skills
  • Experience of managing trades within the Estates functions
  • A good team worker who can work effectively with clinical, managerial and other colleagues.
  • Understanding of health and safety issues within a Healthcare environment
  • Ability to work on own initiative without supervision
