About the opportunity

Global Investment Research (GIR) is a newly formed department, bringing together our existing Equity, Fixed Income, Sustainable Investing and Research Specialist teams across the globe into a world leading research business. The teams also collaborate and work together with Real Estate, our Macro business, Multi Manager strategies and Systematic Research while supporting the build out of our private assets capabilities. The foundations to our fundamental research is our approach to sustainable investment to further imbed this key strategy into our processes. With additional input from the wider investment business, including trading, portfolio management and investment directing, this combined function enables all investors to collaborate and actively work to seek and influence investment decisions with our client needs at the forefront.

Equities

The research department – 125 global equity analysts and an additional 90 Research Specialists based across India and China, provide analysis on companies, stocks and sectors, working closely with fund managers to select stocks for their portfolios.

Purpose of the Role

The primary responsibility of the Equity Research Associates is to generate high conviction, investment recommendations based on differentiated, in-depth analysis of industry and company fundamentals with a sustainable investing lens. Associates will have both responsibilities specifically aligned to sustainability-related data and broader investment responsibilities.

Fidelity believes that high standards of corporate responsibility make good business sense and protect and enhance investment returns for our clients. Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) analysis is carried out by research analysts within the equity, fixed income, multi-asset and real estate teams, and all investors are active in analysing the potential effects of these factors when making investment decisions.

We gain an understanding of the relevant Sustainability issues applicable to our investments through our internal research process and in collaboration with a highly skilled in-house Sustainable Investing team to identify those issues which may potentially threaten the value of our investment.

Sustainability-focused Responsibilities

Associates will have the following sustainable activities including:
  • Gathering, synthesizing, and analysing third party sustainability-related data
  • Cross-industry comparisons
  • Collaborating with equity and/or fixed income analysts to assign and review sustainability ratings at the issuer level
  • Preparation for and participation in engagement meetings on relevant topics, with issuers including senior management, investor relations professionals, and sustainability officers
  • Sustainability KPI tracking & monitoring
Fundamental Investment Responsibilities

The Equity Research Associate role is designed to collaborate with and support our research analysts across a range of activities, including those specifically aligned to ESG analysis. Associates will be paired with Analysts who will provide training, mentoring, and support while the Associates develop and hone their investment acumen and skills.

Responsibilities Supporting Fundamental Investment Activities Include
  • Working with their paired Analyst to provide modelling support including learning, discussing & debating, building and updating investment models
  • Partnering with research specialist teams in Delhi and/or Dalian to provide ongoing and episodic investment analysis
  • Support the preparation and presentation of industry & sector reviews and thematic research
  • Building and maintaining industry models
  • Contribute to the selection process and oversight of suitable investments from covered companies for a variety of mandates
  • Learn from and share your knowledge and insights broadly and collaboratively with investment professionals across the firm
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings, including company meetings
  • Attend and host broker meetings and expert calls
  • In time, dependent on performance and readiness, cover a designated list of stocks using a variety of research and investment techniques, writing and communicating research notes resulting in high conviction buy / sell recommendations on covered names
Stock Coverage

Dependent on your prior experience and readiness, we may assign you with immediate responsibility for analysing a group of stocks within an industry vertical, making investment recommendations on covered names.

Stock Coverage Responsibilities Will Also Include
  • Covering a designated list of stocks using a variety of research and investment techniques
  • Writing and communicating research notes resulting in high conviction buy / sell recommendations on covered names
  • Acting as Fidelity’s key point of contact for covered companies, owning those relationships and interactions with them
  • Serving as a thought-leader for our equity research effort globally
  • Playing a key role in the selection and oversight of suitable investments from covered companies for a variety of mandates
Experience And Qualifications Required

Candidates must have innate qualities of being entrepreneurial, highly motivated, collaborative and comfortable taking calculated risks. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high degree of independent thought, intellectual curiosity and honesty.

  • A demonstrated passion for sustainability and business
  • With experience and exposure in fields/roles that require strong analytical, data mining, numerical, research and/or problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent writing and drafting skills, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Highly motivated, able to think logically, critically & quickly
  • A strong “can do” attitude and sense of urgency, with the ability to influence strategic change and get things done
  • Team oriented with a creative and innovative mind-set
  • Highly organised yet flexible, deadline oriented with an ability to work under pressure
  • Able to effectively prioritize multiple competing time demands
  • Strong attention to detail and appreciation for providing supporting analysis
  • Stakeholder management skills; an ability to form relationships and influence

  • Previous stock coverage and / or evidenced ability to effectively pitch buy / sell stock recommendations
  • A demonstrated passion for financial markets
