This demanding role would require you to manage a programme of Integrated Business Management interventions across the Defence Equipment Support enterprise.

Your role will be to work within the Equipment Support Continuous Improvement Team (ESCIT) as a Managing Support System Consultant leading and coaching a team to deliver the most effective support arrangements for military equipment through-out a life-time that is often 20 to 30 years.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week

Job Description

You will lead a team of internal consultants to analyse the support requirements for a wide range of equipment from missiles to nuclear. Understand the necessary performance, design the optimal support system, and act as a business change agent with the existing team to allow their adoption of your conclusions.

Reporting to the Principle Support System Consultant (SSC) you will be a Managing SSC shaping and delivering a programme of work to build equipment support planning capabilities within a key Defence market sector. You would achieve this through building fruitful relationships with senior stakeholders across that market and beyond. You will also lead and coach a team of experienced Senior SSCs and developing Junior SSCs to deliver successful outcomes for our clients.

As a Managing SSC in a Chartered Management Institute accredited Premier Consulting Practice you will help shape the strategic direction of the Practice.

Responsibilities

To lead and coach your team of SSCs, of varying levels of experience, you will need to:
  • Be qualified as a Certified Management Consultant and/or be a Fellow of the Institute of Consulting, or demonstrate a successful track record in strategic, consultancy led change.
  • Ideally hold a Post Graduate Level 7 academic qualification in Through Life Engineering Services, Systems Engineering, Engineering Business Management or equivalent, alternatively have a proven track record of delivery across Through Life Equipment Support.
  • Be a proven subject matter expert in the design & delivery of integrated optimised equipment support solutions for the Defence market sector;
  • Have experience developing people, using strong interpersonal skills and judgement to effectively impart your expertise such that it can be applied by others;
  • Be able to influence senior stakeholders across DE&S, Front Line Commands, industry and academia, dealing in complex, sometimes contentious change management issues;
  • Have a high level of creative thinking & decision making to develop & implement ideas that impact beneficially on both the short & long-term future of your assigned market sector.
You will also clearly demonstrate wide & deep experience across the range of practical applications of successful changes for Business Operations Management in the Defence Equipment & Support sector.

You will need to demonstrate this in a leadership capacity by:
  • Acting as leader & coach to people within your delivery programme;
  • Influencing business thinking and the setting of the agenda across the discipline;
  • External parties seeking your advice on issues impacting the sector.
In addition, you will hold a full driving licence to allow travel to remote sites. This could include, overnight stays and possibly weekly trips.
