Role Overview:

As a multichannel Environments Manager, you will be responsible for

the provisioning of all development, testing and production like environments, including interfaces as per the configuration plan, in a timely manner and will work with multiple technical groups, as such, good technical knowledge is a pre-requisite.

Reporting to the Supplier Delivery Manager, MC Environments Manage will liaise closely with technical support teams, project teams, development teams, testing teams and service management teams on all aspects of managing the IT environments.

The MC Environment Manager will be expected to assure that all JD end to end environments conform to the security aspects of ISO27001, ISO9001 standards and other requirements set by the JD Information Security Manager.

The MC Environment Manager will be expected to have a solid understanding of future requirements, and drive forward changes to all environments to ensure they remain aligned with production systems, and are fit for purpose at all times.

Key Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Assuring the delivery, security, availability, and capacity of end-to-end environments are fit for purpose, including those provisioned by third parties.
  • Working closely with the project and testing teams to understand upcoming requirements and plan those in against an agreed environments roadmap.
  • Co-ordination with various technical support groups in the provisioning of planned environments, ensuring risks and issues are identified and resolved.
  • The primary role of the Environment Manager is the planning, provisioning, and operating of MC environments, within agreed schedule, budget, quality and standards as per JD’s standards.
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of an Environments strategy and policy for all JD MC environments
  • Set JD technical environments specification standards and ensure all work is delivered to those standards.
  • Play an integral part in the delivery of Projects into the delivery lifecycle and contributing to a smooth project transition into live service.
  • Plan the usage of environments by maintaining close alignment with Project teams, Developers and Test teams for all projects and new business take on.
  • Ensure all environments comply with software licensing requirements.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day running of MC environment management and associated tasks, ensuring data-integrity across end-to-end environments.
  • Work with all stake holders including Technical Support teams, Project Managers, Developers and Testing teams, to create and maintain the environments plan.
  • Liaise with and coordinate between all stakeholders to understand and manage environment requirements, conflicts, and dependencies.
  • Manage the creation of fit for purpose MC environments by coordinating the technology teams involved in the build and configuration processes.
  • Responsible for non-production environment capacity planning and utilisation, ensuring that risk and cost efficiency opportunities are effectively managed.
  • Work closely with the Service Management Team to deliver packaged releases, bug fixes and enhancements into the development and production environments as per plans.
  • Track the configuration and changes to all environments so they are maintained in a known and managed state.
  • Manage and take ownership of environment defects and resolution.
  • Maintain detailed documentation regarding the structure and configuration of all environments.
  • Ensure backup strategies and backups are in place.
  • Manage operational risk and issues.
  • Plan the reuse or decommissioning of environments.
  • Manage, implement, and promote the take on of world class IT processes and procedures across the IT Development organisation.
  • Provide for full support of the environments during periods of usage, whether that be for development, testing or production

Reporting

  • Monitor and report provisioning progress against Development Plans for projects, and providing detailed ‘meaningful’ metrics to stakeholders.
  • Provide MI data and security reports to remain compliant with procedures around environment usage, changes, outages, configuration and backups.

Skills / Experience / Knowledge Needed:

  • Excellent understanding of Technical IT Environment Management planning, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Strong commercial awareness including 3rd party supplier and software licencing implications associated with environment provisioning and support.
  • Whole project lifecycle experience, working with Project Managers from initial conceptual design to testing and deployment into live.
  • Thorough understanding of ITIL Processes, specifically Change Management, Release Management and Configuration Management
  • Exposure to automated deployment and configuration tools
  • Previous experience in retail/eCommerce environments highly advantageous.
  • Highly organised, able to work in a fast-paced environment and plan/manage time accordingly.
  • Strong facilitation and influencing skills.
  • Confidence, experience and knowledge to question stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Self-starter able to work with limited guidance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt style for different audiences with varying degrees of technical experience.
  • Diligent, focused and dependable, able to build strong relationships based on integrity.
  • Team player able to work constructively with other project managers, business analysts, developers, suppliers, testers, business stakeholders and management.
  • Strong knowledge of methodologies across the whole software development lifecycle, including continuous delivery techniques.
  • Whole project lifecycle experience, working with Project Managers from initial conceptual design to testing and deployment into live.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills – delivering and communicating plans effectively, with the ability to balance the requirements of multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate decision making skills whilst also able to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, offering a positive and adaptable approach to project teams in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Proven problem-solving skills that demonstrate a methodical and analytical approach.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experienced practitioner with experience in large scale IT Enabled transformations ideally within Retail / Telecomms.
  • Broad IT knowledge - a breadth of knowledge across platforms, architectures, and infrastructure, with a general understanding of “how things work” and an ability to converse intelligently with Technical resources.
  • Able to network effectively, influence people and broker relationships with stakeholders and workstream leads.
  • Knowledge of industry standard IT testing principles.
