We are looking for an experienced ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER to your our HSEQ team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As part of its new strategy, BIG is supporting energy transition and the progress to net zero. The ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER role plays a key part in ensuring BIG understands and meets its regulatory responsibilities in relation to EA Permits at our Plants and in the context of our CSR and Development activity.

Sitting within the HSEQ team and based mainly at our Hull site, the Environmental Manager will provide expertise across all BIG sites and projects. This is a challenging but rewarding role at a time of growth in the business and will ideally suit an experienced SME/Manager willing to work across multiple sites.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Site Environmental Compliance Reporting in accordance with the EA Permits
  • Site LCCC reporting in accordance with the CfD Contract
  • Water Quality and Effluent Discharge Consent
  • Operating and Maintaining Site Environmental Management Systems as required by the Permit and planning permission
  • Weighbridge System oversight
  • Supervising Sampling Activities, On-site and Off-site, including providing training as necessary to operatives on sampling
  • Supervising the Lab Technician and the basic analytical laboratories on site at EWH and ensuring Clean lab for water chemistry etc
  • Providing Company Wide support with provision of data for routine reporting for ESG/CSR submissions
  • Provide support, as a subject matter expert, to BIG’s other sites and contribute to project work as required

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential requirements:

  • Qualified to at least degree level qualification in a relevant Environmental discipline.
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience including significant energy from waste or waste management experience in an environmental compliance role.
  • Familiarity with managing and complying with environmental permits, planning permissions and other types of permits and consents.
  • Experience of engaging with and collaborating with the Environment Agency to manage environmental issues
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office, in particular Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Sound working knowledge of HSE at work regulations and safe working practice
  • Full right to work in the UK

Desirable requirements

  • Experience with implementing and maintaining environmental management systems compliant with ISO 14001
  • Experience of maintaining renewable subsidy accreditations and making associated subsidy claims
  • WAMITAB level 4 Certificate in Waste and Resource Management including the option ‘Principals and Practices of Managing a Thermal Treatment Processing Facility’, or qualifications and experience deemed to be equivalent thereto or should be prepared to study during their employment to achieve this qualification.
  • Experience line managing staff, including providing supervision and managing performance in line with HP best practice
