Role Profile – Environment & Sustainability Graduate Support

Story Contracting Limited are a civil engineering and construction contractor with office and depots across the UK. We have an immediate need for environment and sustainability support to maintain momentum in developing our carbon reduction strategy, validating our science-based carbon reduction targets, and to support the development of a new environmental reporting tool.

We are looking for someone to come and work with us for a fixed term period and see this as an ideal opportunity for graduate to come and gain some valuable experience with us.

Details of the position are as follows;

The main responsibilities will be as follows;

  • To provide support to the implementation of the Story Contracting Ltd (SCL) Carbon Reduction Strategy, Scope 1, 2 and 3 Route Maps and SBTi compliance targets and timescales
  • Environmental (including energy, waste) and Carbon data collection and analysis, including development/implementation of a web based reporting tool, to support Scope 1, 2 & 3 and other environmental reporting requirements.
  • Involvement with the Sustainable Innovations Group and Sustainability Champions to understand and help progress/communicate current projects and initiatives.
  • To undertake focussed research and data/information collection in support of all the above.
  • To support environmental assurance at site/project level (environmental audits) to monitor compliance with legal requirements including waste management/duty of care, pollution control and environmental permits.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • First degree/BSc in a scientific discipline, with a clear element of environmental science/engineering and sustainability, ideally with a construction/infrastructure focus.
  • MSc, ideally from a degree course focussed on environmental protection and sustainability in construction/infrastructure/engineering, including waste management/circular economy and pollution control.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • UK Environmental Legislation and best practice in construction environmental management.
  • Environmental and Carbon Management System Standards, including ISO 14001 as a minimum.
  • IT, data and reporting process literate, ideally knowledge of GHG Reporting protocol and SBTi.
  • Practical experience of coordinating/communicating with a team of other graduates on environmental/sustainability projects.
