Boeing Defence UK Limited (BDUK) is responsible for delivering IT services to a number of customers both internal and external throughout the UK. As part of this integration process, a dedicated IT capability is being supported within the UK that can draw upon the considerable IT resources of the worldwide Boeing Company to deliver complex solutions to the business and its clients.

Boeing Defence UK is looking for a Entry Level Network Engineer. This role will involve contributing to the delivery of projects and sustainment of the SCIS (Supply Chain Information Services) core Datacentre network and branch connectivity. This role will suit a technically minded individual looking to enhance their career and skills as a network engineer. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and willing to commit time and energy to enhance their skills and knowledge of all relevant networking technologies, drawing on the experience of the exiting team members.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to events, requests and incidents logged in management systems.

  • Performing analysis of log files, systems, and network traffic.

  • Working to well-defined SLAs & KPIs

  • Carrying out routine tasks and checks of the network equipment

  • Represents Networks and Infrastructure at meetings

  • Contribute to delivery of projects

  • Maintain documentation and working instructions

What we’re ideally looking for

Typically have 2-3 years in an IT support role within an established IT or telecommunications profession. Able to demonstrate an aptitude for troubleshooting, knowledge of network technologies, server computing systems including operating systems, networks, hardware, software packages and utilities, computer control languages and commands. Able to demonstrate proficiency in the use of standard applicable computing disciplines including change, configuration, problem, performance, and operational management. Entry level understanding of network topology, network devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, servers and server delivery systems, subsystems, and components.

Desirable Experience / Skills / Qualification:

  • 2+ Years working in an IT support or IS services environment with proven analytical and problem solving experience

  • Proven experience working within a Service Governance framework such as ITIL.

  • Cisco CCNA or working towards

  • Fundamental understanding of:

    • Cisco Switching and Routing

    • Resilient TCP/IP Networking

    • Firewall Technologies

    • VPN technologies

    • Linux operating systems

    • System log management and network/server monitoring.

Other information:

  • Required - SC Clearance or willingness and eligibility to go through clearance process

  • Will be part of an on-call rota

  • There will be frequent travel to other sites as and when required
