Job overview

Millthorpe School is seeking to appoint a skilled and experienced English tutor to work with pupils who may be in need of additional support to develop their literacy skills.

You will have experience of teaching or tutoring pupils or young people, and you will ideally have QTS. Experience of developing and delivering intervention programmes to support the progress of targeted groups of students, or whole school literacy programmes, would be an advantage.

Tutoring is proposed to take place with small groups (up to 3 students), during and/or immediately before or after the school day. The focus of the sessions you will deliver is to make a rapid impact on students’ literacy skills, to improve both their progress in English and their ability to access and perform well in other subjects. The programme follows the Government’s agenda to offer additional support to pupils, to counteract the disproportionate negative impacts of the pandemic on particular groups of learners.

This is a casual contract.

In return, the Trust offers a range of staff benefits, including enrolment in an excellent pension scheme, 24/7 access to an employee assistance programme and a range of family friendly policies.

Millthorpe is a popular and successful school rooted in its community close to the heart of the historic city of York. You will be joining a warm, inclusive and motivated team of over 100 colleagues. Further details about our school are available on our school website: https://millthorpeschool.co.uk/

An application form, job description and person specification are available from the Trust website https://southbanktrust.co.uk/careers/

Please email applications to recruitment@southbanktrust.co.uk for the attention of Gemma Greenhalgh.
