This is a great opportunity for apprentices to get practical experience in a British owned company competing in a global market in business for over 60 years. You will be working alongside skilled engineers maintaining and improving automated manufacturing equipment, supplying products to prestigious customers in the automotive and other sectors.

Technicians ensure that factory and equipment perform to the required standard to facilitate production targets regarding safety, quality, delivery and cost. This requires the application of a complex blend of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviours across the electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power and control systems disciplines.

Technicians are responsible for undertaking Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM), diagnostics and repairs, on Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machine tools, robot cells, automated plant, troubleshooting issues to maintain productivity and all associated production plant and equipment.

This apprenticeship is 4 years starting in September 2020.

Attend Colchester Institute full time between September 2021 and February 2022, complete all learning requirements to develop both practical skills and basic engineering underpinning knowledge. For the following years, attend Colchester Institute on a day release basis to complete the necessary educational requirements for the programme.

  • Complete a variety of engineering practical tasks and jobs to support attainment of the educational standards
  • Work with and support Technicians to complete intrusive, planned and preventative maintenance schedules (PM’s)
  • Support Technicians with breakdown maintenance across all production lines
  • Timely completion of information within the computer-based maintenance programme
  • Drive personal development on the programme
  • Learn about the business, drawing down on others experience and knowledge
  • Learn safe practices at work and knowledge of the necessary statutory requirements under the Health and Safety and Safety at Work Act
  • Develop in the role to be able to carry out engineering tasks independently and with minimal support from others.
  • Take part in all training and development activities as required to ensure successful completion of the apprenticeship requirements

Desired qualifications

  • Essential: Applicants should possess GCSE standard qualifications within English, maths and a Science subject at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent
  • All candidates will be required to complete Colchester Institute’s mandatory initial assessment process before being put forward to the company. This will consist of online assessments and interview with the relevant department

Future prospects

  • Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, apprentices will be offered a permanent position

  • Have lived in the UK or in the European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 years
  • Be a resident of the UK for the entire duration of the program (48 months)
  • Not be registered to study on a UK government funded course ending August 2021 or later
  • You will be at least 18 years old before September 2021
