Job Description

As a multi-skilled engineering technician, based at the Element Six Global Innovation Centre (GIC), you will work with abrasives application team around activities related to test systems, machining centres and other equipment supporting the product development and testing activities on site. This includes project work with internal and external professionals, which requires the ability to communicate and analyse technical data, both when working on your own or as part of an abrasives application team (drilling, mining and metal machining). This role reports to the Senior Application Engineer.
Duties and tasks
  • Install and maintain Innovation equipment throughout the GIG
  • Maintenance, fault finding, and repairs to equipment
  • Develop sound health and safety practices
  • Become proficient in the use of Workmate (maintenance database), to create and control equipment documentation, maintenance records, and fault reports
  • Provide an innovative and proactive approach to improve operation and reliability of equipment and to contribute to projects within the GIC
  • Calibration of key equipment with the appropriate documentation, and latest external standards
  • Ability to communicate and work with external companies
  • Becoming able to follow wiring schematic drawings, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, to modify and interrogate for fault finding issues
  • Operation of HPHT synthesis presses, including loading/unloading and cleaning, process monitoring, anvil and die wear/ deformation recording.
  • Setting and operating of manual and CNC lathes and milling machines
  • Work competently and safely in order to develop necessary engineering technical skills and knowledge, as well as the functional skill and behaviours to be considered competent as an engineer
  • Actively contribute in World Class Manufacturing (WCM) activities, using common tools such as Practical Problem Solving, 5S, TPM and standardisation
Qualifications
  • Completed A levels or equivalent at grade A*- C, 5 GCSEs grade A*- C including Mathematics, English and a Science related subject
  • Computer literacy
  • Good motor skills and naturally skilled at using hands to solve mechanical problems

Additional information
The Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard will run as follows:
Year 1: Full time at Oxford Advanced Skills training centre/ college holidays spent at Element Six GIC.
Year 2: Attending Oxford Advanced Skills training centre one day a week - 4 days at Element Six GIC.
Year 3 - 4: Full time at Element Six GIC.
The future prospect of this role is being a fully skilled engineering technician, with the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our business and further progress into bigger roles, potentially at other Element Six global sites.
Starting salary is £12,000 per annum, increasing over the course of the qualification.
Working week: 37.5 hours
Contract: 4 Year Contract
