The organisation

My client is one of the UK’s largest premier food businesses, supplying to the nation’s most popular supermarkets and restaurants. They are a fully integrated business controlling the whole product supply chain, with associated transport and logistics functions that employ more than 6500 people. This is achieved by investing in people, utilising the latest technology and being uncompromising in their commitment to high quality and food standards.

This is a fast-paced, dynamic FMCG factory environment which is noisy and refrigerated in some areas, manufacturing short shelf-life products where hygiene standards are critical. The role is both factory and office based.

About the Role

As an Engineering Manager and part of the senior management team, you will lead the 90+ strong Engineering department in order to support all activities on site. You will provide the technical leadership for all in-production maintenance, planned maintenance, continuous improvement and projects to drive overall reliability and availability of equipment. You will also be responsible for the facilities management of the site and accountable for the Engineering budget.

As an Engineering Manager your key responsibilities will be:

• Leading the Engineering department and developing the engineers

• Maintaining a high level of reliability and availability of factory equipment through an effective planned maintenance regime

• Ensuring legislative compliance for all engineering activities carried out on site.

• Ensuring safe engineering practices across the site, including contractors

• Life cycle asset management of all equipment

• Detailed control and management of the Engineering department budget

• Responsibility for recruiting, retaining and development of all Engineers

• Communicating and collaborating with other colleagues, suppliers and contractors

• Understanding of engineering and operational KPI’s and be able to identify areas for improvement

• Leading and supporting improvements projects and initiatives

• Fostering a behavioural environment that analyses data on equipment efficiency and downtime in order to drive continuous improvement initiatives

• Responsibility for managing Legionella risks by implementation of written scheme of precautions and control measures.

• Responsibility for coordination of Engineering Compliance and Health & Safety

What they are looking for:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registered or working towards

• Proven success in Engineering leadership and ability to develop and coach a team

• Experience in managing projects (capital and/or continuous improvement)

• Experience in change management

• NEBOSH or IOSH

• Proven ability to manage budgets

• Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multi-task and thrive in a timeline-driven environment

• Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience

• Ability to work individually or as part of a team

You do not necessarily need previous experience working within a FMCG environment although it would be beneficial.
