About the Opportunity

Jacobs Transportation has an enviable reputation in Highways, Rail and Aviation. The Highways UK infrastructure consultancy sector includes a portfolio of high-profile projects with clients that include National Highways (NH), Transport Scotland, Welsh Government, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (NII), international, national and regional contractors and various Local Authorities. Our Highways team provides comprehensive consultancy and engineering services to the highways sector, covering the full spectrum of highway infrastructure requirements, from business case and project development, preliminary appraisal and feasibility studies through to detailed design, implementation, operational management advice and operations and maintenance.

As an Engineering Manager you will lead technical delivery and manage the provision of consultancy services to major clients in the Transportation sector delivering a range of multi-disciplinary projects in the UK, Europe and across the globe. Working closely with the Project Manager, you will be accountable for all aspects of the day-to-day engineering and technical delivery of work on specific projects and support the technical interface between the Project and the engineering and technical disciplines, providing guidance as required.

You will be responsible for ensuring the scope is well-defined and that there is a clear understanding of the project schedule and the budget for each activity to be carried out by each discipline. You will ensure that the disciplines are functioning as an integrated team and that the technical output is fully coordinated across all disciplines

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering a safe, sustainable design that supports decarbonisation and improves social value.
  • Accountable for integrating the delivery team, design coordination, quality and ensuring the technical solutions meet the scope.
  • Accountable for technical delivery to programme.
  • Assisting discipline leads and the project management team in managing budget and forecasting.
  • Be an advocate for inclusion, influencing and creating an environment that recognises the diverse talents of our people

Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • A Degree or Masters in a relevant engineering discipline
  • A sound understanding of design management principles and standards in a highways or civil engineering environment
  • Proven engineering design management experience gained across a range of infrastructure projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to develop innovative, robust and safe design on civil engineering projects
  • Ability to lead, organise and motivate design teams
