Mott MacDonald is a global consultancy whose people do exactly that.Energy Networks within our Transmission & Distribution division is looking to appoint an Engineering Design Manager to support the management of a large multi voltage detailed design for a new substation in the UK.Our portfolio of work continues to grow and we have a number of opportunities in the pipeline which offer exciting roles and responsibilities. This role will support the growth of the existing teams as part of our expansion plans. The role is internally and externally facing. Internally you will be working with Project Managers (who will be responsible for the commercial, contractual parts of delivery), Planners and discipline leads who you will manage to produce the required designs. Externally, you will be liaising with the client and contractors to ensure the design meets the client requirements.You will be responsible for the delivery of the detailed design of projects which may include strategically important and complex EHV substations, to programme, budget and quality.You will be able to manage design teams including HV Plant, Cable, OHL, Civil, and Protection and Control. You will be co-ordinating these discipline inputs (including health and safety, sustainability, environment, planning) to achieve a fully integrated detailed design. You will be using a combination of onshore and offshore resources and working closely with the Contractors.You Will Be Responsible For- Providing an overall technical lead
- Managing design works, monitoring and reporting via programme updates, trackers & progress meetings helping to prepare schedules of work, work breakdown structures and risk schedules
- Ensuring all designs are appropriately reviewed and approved in line with best practice and by appropriately qualified individuals
- Working with the client Assurance and Operations teams to ensure the design is functional and acceptable
- Contribute to Health and safety management of design including application of CDM regulations
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to the health and safety framework, policies and management system requirements and expectations
- Develop and maintain an awareness of SHE hazards and associated risks and demonstrate a commitment to eliminate or minimise those risks
- Work with the resource manager to expand the team.
- Work with the existing team to improve/implement efficient design processes
- Work with the wider team to ensure designs are sustainable and support environmental and planning aspects of the works
- Deal with any issues arising from the construction teams
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline (preferably Electrical or Instrumentation/Control Engineering) and preferably Chartered with relevant professional body
- Proven success in the delivery of complex detailed design projects within a multidisciplinary environment
- Experience of delivering detailed designs utilising the latest BIM/Digital tools
- UK EHV experience would be beneficial
- A collaborative approach to working and your day to day interactions
- Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills, evidenced by influencing, engaging, and facilitating workgroups, as well as through managing interfaces with engineering consultants, construction, operations, and others
