DESIGN ENGINEER DEGREE APPRENTICESHIP

Located in Bridgend, South Wales.

Full-time, permanent.

About the new Engineering Degree Apprenticeship:

The Integrated Engineering Degree Apprenticeship has been designed for candidates who are passionate about studying Engineering at degree level whilst gaining valuable on the job experience. As an Engineering Degree Apprentice, working at Talis-UK you will develop the knowledge and skills to design and develop new products and technologies as an important member of the design department. Once the degree apprenticeship is successfully completed you will then continue your journey as a Junior Design Engineer at Talis-UK.

The part-time degree course takes 5 years to complete (Studying one day a week at Swansea – 1st 3yrs followed by the last 2yrs at Cardiff University) gaining real-life insight into the world of Engineering as you go.

The Job Role

As an ‘Apprentice Design Engineer’, you will assist on new product developments and also support the business on a daily basis. In doing this you will gain real industry experience, learning new skills and gaining knowledge along the way. The role is diverse to ensure you gain as much benefit as practicable. This covers such areas but not limited to; The design Process, First Principles of Engineering, Materials science, Risk Management, Product design, CAD, FEA, Prototyping, Testing, Engineering change management and much more….

Key Skills and Competencies Required

  • Ability to work alone or part of a project team
  • Potential to perform ‘intermediate level’ Engineering calculations
  • Demonstrate learning and application of engineering principles
  • Proactive approach to work and learning
  • Practically minded to manufacture or test prototypes
  • Logical, scientific, and mathematical thinker.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Desirable to have basic 2D and 3D CAD knowledge / experience

Key Performance Indicators

  • Delivery of projects to agreed timescales, quality and budget
  • Meet expectations with requests for information or support (internal & external)
  • Completion of engineering changes to agreed dates
  • Demonstrate progression along with academic achievement.

About You

To be considered you must have achieved a minimum of:

2 x A-Levels OR a relevant BTEC/EAL level 3 qualification.

and

5 x GCSE grades (A*-C) including English and Maths and be computer literate.

You will need to demonstrate a keen interest engineering and be motivated to achieve results to a level that exceed expectations.

You will be off-site one day per week attending your course and so the ability to drive is key.

Hours of work:38 hours per week full-time (1 day a week attending course)

Gross Salary per annum:£15,000 per annum

Holidays: 23 days plus Bank Holidays (25 basic over time)
