What is the purpose of this role?


At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons.


By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly and at HMP Featherstone - New Road, Featherstone, Wolverhampton WV10 7PU we’re currently looking for Electricians to join our team.


The role will involve planned and preventative electrical maintenance (in line with statutory and mandatory requirements) as well as remedial and reactive work throughout the prison.


The core working hours are 39 per week but as an inclusive employer, we can consider flexible working. There will be a need to work some weekends but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary). On Call rota in place too.


What will this role involve?

The role will involve planned and preventative electrical maintenance (in line with statutory and mandatory requirements) as well as remedial and reactive work throughout the prison.
  • Carrying out PPM activities and remedial works.
  • Diagnosing and replacing failed domestic electrical components.
  • Responding to breakdowns ensuring all works are carried out under the appropriate Safe System of Work and in a timely manner.
  • Actively fault finding / problem solving on domestic electrical systems across the prison.
  • Undertaking electrical installation activities in accordance with the design provided and IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Testing and inspecting electrical installations in accordance with the current IEE wiring regulations.
  • Monitoring and ordering critical spares for all electrical services.
  • Updating and completing all works within the IT reporting system in a descriptive manner.
  • Identifying (with support) failing assets and chargeable elements of works.

  • Experience of electrical maintenance activities, general distribution and installation and testing.
  • Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at work Regulations.
  • Ability to use protective clothing and equipment, including RPE, Arc Flash, Electrical.
  • An awareness of Safe Systems of Work.
  • Capable of working at heights.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.

What Qualifications do I need?

  • Appropriate technical qualification eg City & Guilds 2365 parts 1-3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above with relevant experience.
  • BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition*.
  • Prison Security Clearance (Amey will support you through this process).
  • If you currently only have 17th Edition, we will sponsor you to upgrade to the 18th Edition (terms and conditions apply).
