Electrical Technician B3
Processing/Mars Wrigley/Plymouth

2 positions:

Position 1: Nights:- Sunday - Thursday 22:00 - 06:00

Position 2: Rotating day shifts Monday - Friday 06:00 - 14:00 or Monday - Friday 14:00 - 22:00


BACKGROUND


The engineering department plays a key strategic role in the site development. The purpose of the role is to drive a reduction in MTTR through effective probelm solving and technical skills. Technical facilitation, Training and leadership of technical solutions to enable a reduction in technical downtime impacting Production, Waste, Quality and Safety. The purpose of a Shift Technician is the replacement of failed components, the ability to troubleshoot and root cause unknown issues with equipment and establish centreline operational output of assigned equipment.


THE JOB

  • Identify and provide technical training and coaching for technicians and process operators, to support the team’s development and continuous improvement
  • Effective delivery of mechanical and electrical maintenance activities, to ensure smooth transition between maintenance and production availability of equipment
  • Take part in risk assessments and formulation of method statements to assist in safe undertaking of any maintenance activity
  • Identify parts for the purchasing of goods and services where these are necessary to conclude work
  • Attend shift handover and capture all relevant technical information and escalate to all key stakeholders through clear communication using appropriate systems
  • Create detailed maintenance notifications for work identified from breakdowns and PMs, identififcation of spares availability and booking out adherance
  • Completion of breakdown cards or full breakdown analysis for major breakdowns
  • Housekeeping and auditing of maintenance areas
  • Working knowledge and repair ability of basic mechanical drive systems at the component level on all assigned equipment, i.e. packaging, overwrap, case pack, conveying, processing or facilities equipment etc.


KEY OUTPUTS

  • The technician will be expected to take on small scale improvements and initiatives, working closely with ownership teams
  • Apply individual knowledge to troubleshoot various competencies: Basic pneumatic and hydraulic, AC/DC Electrical Systems, Automation (PLC and Instrumentation) and Mechanical Systems on all Process and Packaging equipment with minimal guidance
  • The technician is responsible for keeping their listed activity training up to date and for identifying skill shortages.
  • Communication skills are necessary at all stages, especially when there are on-going issues, talking with and gaining co-operation from operators, team leaders and days engineering in organising and carrying out the maintenance and improvement activities
  • An important dimension of the role is that of being a technical coach for other associates
  • The technician needs to be able to fault find and problem solve on a broad range of equipment in a variety of situations


QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

Will be able to demonstrate:

  • HNC / HND in the relevant engineering discipline supported by suitable experience
  • Professional electrical qualifications i.e. IEE wiring regulations, Test and Inspect City & Guilds etc.
  • Recognised mechanical engineering qualifications i.e. City & Guilds, NVQ etc.
  • Completion of a recognised Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent or similar relevant industry experience/ time served
  • Computer skills necessary to update and maintain technical systems and standards
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Communication skils with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organisation
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing standards
  • Understanding of lean methodology
  • Relevant level of theory and principles that underpin the design and function of electrical mechnical and instrumentation systems and equipment
  • Reactive and predictive maintenance processes and procedures
  • 5 years of maintenance experience preferably in a high-speed food packaging manufacturing environment
  • Electrical troubleshooting and repair of equipment containing motor starters, proximity switches and sensors found on all assigned equipment using basic test equipment such as multi-meters, amp probes
  • PLC fault-finding and programming including SCADA
