The role The Electrical Technician will be responsible for supporting all activities in the lab with primary responsibility for the build and maintenance of the electrical and control systems on prototypes, test rigs and building facilities. Experience Applicants must have a suitable Level 3 or above trade or craft qualification preferably relating to mechanical or electrical systems. A qualification in the 18th Edition/BS7671 wiring regulations is desirable but not essential. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Be organised and highly efficient. Be proactive and conscientious. Responsibilities
  • Support the engineering team with the design and development of power, PLC and HMI software systems used to monitor and control equipment.
  • Build and maintain electrical control panels for equipment and prototypes. On occasions this may extend to pneumatic, water and hydraulic systems.
  • Interpret and understand schematic and software logic to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Calibrate sensors and work to improve the accuracy of data logging systems.
  • Provide quality assurance for electrical builds, including I/O function testing and parts inspections from suppliers and subcontractors. Aid in remedial works needed to resolve quality problems.
  • Organise and manage parts for projects as they arrive at the premises. Manage spare parts and consumables for projects and tools.
  • Support the management team and provide leadership in the workshop. This includes aiding management to plan, organise and executes tasks as required from the department.
  • Complete ad-hoc tasks in a prompt, diligent manner and work with the team to meet agreed build schedules and company deadlines. This also includes workshop and office upgrades and maintenance tasks.
  • Operate machinery which may include pillar drills, forklifts, hose swaging machines, linishers, pedestal grinders, shot blasters, mobile pump/booster rigs, hydraulic press, hoists and jacks, power and hand tools to manufacture and maintain components.
  • Understand and follow quality processes and procedures, drawing specifications, schematics and operating procedures accurately.
  • Update documentation when necessary. This includes but is not limited to, updating and completing risk assessments, DFMEAs, methodologies, maintenance logs, build books, BoMs, HSSE and NCR databases and reports.
  • Support, promote and progress 7S throughout all areas.
  • Show initiative and generate new ideas to improve the efficiency of how tasks are done and improve the overall working environment.
  • Provide training and guidance to other team members.
