Engineer and collaborate with personnel from all areas of the business, to develop the world’s most sustainable electric drives. They will provide technical input to the engineering process by specifying analysis methods, development hardware and testing to ensure the product attributes are achieved. They will have good theoretical knowledge of electrical engineering principles combined with high attention to detail and a flair for stepping back and looking at the bigger picture. They will be comfortable stepping outside their core area of expertise and supporting all areas of the product life cycle.

Key Activities:

  • Provide detailed input to the design and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure the end product meets all the requirements and make recommendations for product design changes.
  • Create and maintain Design Verification Plans for new products.
  • Create internal test procedures and external test requests at the system, sub-system and component levels.
  • Analyse test data and create test reports.
  • Support product compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Track and solve technical issues and work with the design team to implement corrective actions.
  • Assess motor performance and correlate to simulation results.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering teams to ensure products work as a whole.
  • Review and define requirements for new products.

Education/Qualifications Required:

  • A degree in Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics Engineering or similar. Ideally this would be at least a 2:1 Bachelor’s degree from a top tier university together with a suitable Master’s degree. Degree content should include a broad basis covering different engineering disciplines and
  • assessed practical content.
  • Suitable extensive experience in a development and validation function could be considered in
  • lieu of degree

  • An understanding of the different stages of high volume product development.
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and their characteristics, applications and limitations.
  • Practical experience working on vehicles and/or electrical systems.
  • Experience with requirements management, DVP+R, FMEA and issue resolution procedures is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of accelerated life testing methods is desirable.
  • Experience working on High Voltage applications in the automotive sector is desirable.

Skills & Attributes Required:

  • A detailed understanding of electric motors and inverters including electromagnetic principles and sensor feedback.
  • A detailed understanding of electrical systems, preferably automotive.
  • Practical electrical skills for prototyping, fault diagnosis and repair of electrical systems.
  • A systems V-model approach to development and validation.
  • Skilled at interpreting test results and referencing analysis predictions.
  • Familiarity with communication standards such as CAN/LIN/Flexray would be useful.
  • An understanding of basic mechanical engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a multi-function team.
