You will join a team of Electrical Control engineers playing a critical part in designing electrical control systems, supporting the work carried out by the Central Laser Facility.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
  • Liaison with laser scientists and users to provide technical advice and assistance in preparation for and support of experiments.
  • Attending daily, but brief, operational meetings to determine experimenters electrical requirements and organise/implement safe solutions
  • Responding appropriately to support the needs of an operational experimental facility
  • Leading fault finding of electrical equipment and control systems
  • Designing, developing and supporting PLC based systems
  • Developing and supporting motion control systems
  • Ensuring safe operation of the electrical equipment in use, issue of the relevant safety documentation, and implementing improvements where necessary
The role requires the candidate to be self-motivated, to work well in a team and to be able to operate independently. You will work closely with research scientists, electrical engineers and leading university research groups from Europe and the UK.

About You

You will have an apprenticeship in Electrical/Electronic Engineering along with experience working in an engineering supporting role, as well as knowledge and practical experience of modern electrical engineering components and techniques.

To be considered for the higher position, as well as the above, you will have proven experience in the development of systems from customers’ requirements to commissioning with sound experience designing and programming PLC based systems and/or high precision motion control and be qualified to a minimum of HNC/HND level or equivalent.
