We are seeking to appoint a Speciality Doctor to join the existing award-winning Rheumatology team at NHS Grampian.

Rheumatology services are delivered in an attractive, recently refurbished, setting of a dedicated and integrated Rheumatology and Osteoporosis unit based on the Foresterhill site. The Department provides comprehensive Rheumatology services for the large geographical region of Grampian in NE Scotland (population approx. 560 000) and the islands of Orkney and Shetland (populations approx. 22,000). A close link already exists with the prestigious Musculoskeletal research team at University of Aberdeen. Collaborative research in this and any other field will be actively encouraged. Our Axial Spondyloarthropathy service is one of the first integrated services run in conjunction with Physiotherapy since the early 1992. The excellent clinical service has been further enhanced by the collaborative work with the University of Aberdeen who house the BSR Ankylosing Spondylitis registry and from 2018 onwards that for Psoriatic Arthritis.

The Aberdeen Rheumatology Team, both NHS and academic has been deemed an EULAR centre of excellence once more, the award running from 2010-2015 and now from 2015-2020.

The Department is supported by a dedicated group of Nurses and Allied Health Professionals. The successful applicant will provide a comprehensive clinical service with a strong focus on Inflammatory Joint Disease, there are sub-specialty interests in Connective Tissue Disease, Vasculitis, Metabolic Bone Disease, Ankylosing Spondylitis and Transition/Young Adult Rheumatology.

The post is available as full-time, but applications from individuals wishing to work part time are also welcome.

The Foresterhill campus is reputed to be the largest in Europe with the principal medical services for Grampian and the Medical School closely integrated. On site are internationally renowned facilities such as the Institute for Medical Sciences, the Health Economic Research Unit and the Rowett Institute of Nutrition.

Aberdeen is a cosmopolitan city and the oil capital of Europe. It has comprehensive transport links with the rest of the UK and Europe, a range of excellent schools and high-quality housing. Four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, 6 months of which should be Rheumatology is required.
