Job Description Summary The EHS Leader will be responsible for the implementation and leadership of health and safety programmes and arrangements at the Brockworth manufacturing site, Development Test facility as well as providing support and guidance to UK field service representatives and UK managed global satellite operations.
They will manage a team of EHS professionals and oversee the work of the Occupational Health Department. Leadership will be demonstrated through successful cross functional departmental working and measured through the delivery of the EHS strategic plan aligned to business objectives.
In this role, you will dedicate your experience and expertise to the protection and safety of our employees, contractors, visitors our environment and community. Discharging these duties through the development and execution of EHS programmes that are aligned to business goals and objectives. You will use your skills and expertise to communicate these programmes, set EHS cultural expectations and use your energy to solve problems and execute on objectives to effect short-term and long-term business goals.Job DescriptionRoles and Responsibilities
  • Provide EHS Leadership in a multi-functional business environment.
  • Working with the Business Leadership set EHS cultural expectations and monitor for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate and maintain in-depth knowledge of existing and proposed regulations.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership as a member of site management team.
  • Establish strategic plans and policies to align with GE EHS programs and key business objectives in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop, present and control appropriate budgetary plans to deliver EHS programmes.
  • Be recognised as the technical/subject matter expert on Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) issues by providing advice and guidance to the Site Leader and Leadership team.
  • Manage and direct activities to maintain permits and consents.
  • Provide resource and contribute to shop Gemba activities and Lean management programmes, ensuring EHS standard work supports business standard work.
  • Provide EHS leadership to site staff, employees and EHS Committees, including union safety representatives.
  • Drive EHS compliance through audits and proactive risk elimination.
  • Primary contact for external regulatory agencies and drive GE initiatives and values including establishing EHS “Heat Maps”, risk profile tools and the facility High Risk Protection Program (HPR).
  • Oversee the departments planning and delivery of EHS training for employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Lead the EHS compliance assurance program at site.
  • Maintain contractor and vendor EHS approvals including insurance certifications and qualification to perform work.
  • Lead incident/accident investigations and develop corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Ensure strong management of change programmes are implemented to capture and control risks from process and engineering changes.
  • Working closely with the Facilities Leader co-ordinate EHS efforts amongst site facilities team and external contractors who come to site.
  • Establish strong links with materials, engineering, sourcing and manufacturing experts to ensure compliance with REACH and COSHH.
  • Compile and present periodic reports to site leadership & aviation EHS Group on site EHS performance, projects and initiatives.
  • Formation, communication and integration of related policies and practices into the business.
  • Ensure compliance is maintained in relation to tracking programs and record keeping systems.
  • Provide support and guidance as required to other GE Aviation UK facilities, thereby building close working relationships with other EHS Leaders and specialists.
  • Development of safety programmes in response to identified hazards and risks, working closely with business stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation and embedding of such programmes.
  • Liaise with contractors, customers and third-party specialists to identify, classify and mitigate EHS risks.
Training Responsibilities and other Specific Responsibilities:
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of EHS training programmes for GE Aviation employees. Ensuring suitable systems are maintained to meet EHS training objectives.
  • Champion the implementation of the GE EHS Management System (Framework 2.0), through coordination of steering groups, establishing framework owners and provide advice and guidance on the implementation of the EHS Framework programme.
  • Establish and ensure the sites industrial hygiene monitoring programme meets the risk profile of the site.
Formal Qualifications:
  • Preferred candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or NEBOSH diploma) in Occupational Health & Safety, with at least 4 years of experience with EHS management systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Candidates must also possess relevant experience of driving EHS programmes within a manufacturing environment.
Desired Experience & Characteristics:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside GE, i.e. union representatives, regulatory agencies and subject matter experts.
  • Established project management experience.
  • Appreciation of the Aviation industry.
  • Management of toxic chemical’s as well as dangerous substances and explosive atmospheres.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of RIDDOR & OSHA regulations.
  • Experienced in managing environmental permits, process consents, hazardous waste, and other environmental programs.
  • An understanding of machinery safety hazards and appropriate control measures.
  • Experience in generating regulatory required reports such as air emission performance and inventories.
  • Ability to establish priorities in a fast-moving dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work effectively across a matrix organization.
