As a highly motivated DMPK PK/PD modelleryou will join our Neuroscience research group in Cambridge, UK where you will be responsible for providing PK/PD expertise and strategic input for projects across a wide range of modalities. Collaborating with project team members you will drive the understanding of the pre-clinical PK/PD characteristics of a molecule, with the aim of contributing extensively to appropriate PK/PD packages of work to achieve project milestones. A key component of the role will be to devise and execute translational PK and PK/PD modelling within Neuroscience projects, with human PK and dose projections as key deliverables. This will utilise both internal and external resource where applicable.

The Neuroscience group, within AstraZeneca’s BioPharmaceuticals R&D unit manages AstraZeneca’s entire portfolio of CNS and pain programs from target identification through Phase II proof of concept studies. The group is built around a bold collaborative approach that brings together the great science of the biotech and academic worlds with the scientific and commercial reach of AstraZeneca, one of the world’s largest global biopharmaceutical companies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a DMPK PK/PD modeller you will represent projects at various stages of research and pre-clinical development (target validation through to start of Phase 1) and will function as the main point of contact for all Neuroscience DMPK PK/PD activities on your assigned projects using your PK/PD and DMPK expertise to influence team strategy and develop pre-clinical-clinical translational PK/PD approaches.

Essential Requirements

  • Educated to BSc or equivalent

  • Experience as a DMPK PK/PD representative for projects in both discovery and development phases with key expertise in hands-on PK/PD modelling

  • Track record of delivering PK and PK/PD modelling and simulation aspects of candidate selection and Phase 1 ready assets

  • Expertise with PK and PK/PD modelling and simulation software (e.g. Phoenix, MATLAB, Berkeley-Madonna)

  • Strong communicator with ability to effectively communicate plans, data and recommendations to multi-discipline based project teams

Desirable Requirements

  • Educated to PhD is strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of both biologics and small molecule discovery and development is highly desirable.

  • DMPK knowledge outside of core PK/PD capabilities. This could include a combination of bioanalytical, in vitro ADME or biotransformation understanding.

  • Experience in Neuroscience drug discovery

  • Experience in outsourcing and oversight of PK/PD or DMPK activities to CRO’s
