What is the Role?

As a Distribution Substation Maintenance Team Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of all maintenance works on Substation equipment on our Low Voltage and High Voltage Network. This includes Electrical Switchgear, Transformers, Pillars and Protection Systems.
  • This role will require a mix of field and office-based work where your responsibilities will include but are not limited to; the safety and performance management of a team of 12 Electrical Plant Fitters, planning more difficult maintenance including outages with our Network Management Centre and customers, creating work packs, weekly performance reporting, operating and issuing safety documents on our network up to 11kV.
  • You’ll act as an ambassador for Wessex and SSEN when interacting with external and internal customers, including our Network Management Centre, Customer Call Centre and domestic and commercial consumers.
  • We are always investigating alternative ways of working to improve network safety, reduce cost and drive efficiency. Safety is a key priority at SSEN and throughout everything you do you will need to apply our rigorous safety policies and procedures.
  • You may be required to participate in an out of hours standby rota to assist in fault restoration and repairs. Your skills and experience will be needed during periods of high winds and weather events, ensuring we restore our customers supplies as safely and as quickly as possible.
What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
  • Experience managing a team of field-based operatives and of planning, managing and supervising works
  • Experience in developing a team to meet future business requirements
  • Experience using Asset Management Systems including Maximo, GIS & POWERON and knowledge of ESQCR
  • Senior Authorised Person (SAP) at 11kV
  • Enthusiasm, drive, a flexible approach to work and an ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment. Full UK driving licence.

About The Department

Our Maintenance & Inspections teams are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are on the front line interacting with our customers and operating on our network. As well as ensuring our network is maintained and inspected to the required timescales, it is also our responsibility to respond to defects and faults, dispatching our skilled teams to carry out repairs as quickly as possible, ensuring our customers are never without power.

  • A full driving licence
  • Knowledge of ESQCR
  • High regard for safety, embedding yourself in our safety culture
  • Customer relationship skills, and a commitment to providing a high-level of service
  • Enthusiasm, drive, a flexible approach to work and an ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
