Our Distribution Centre (DC), based in Redruth, Cornwall, is the hub of our business and where all of our product for our growing national and international customer base is shipped from.

As DC Operations Manager, reporting into the Senior Logistics Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the picking, shipping and returns functions and their teams across our 6 buildings on site. Your role will be to ensure all tasks are carried out in line with customer and business expectations in a safe and efficient manner, supporting and driving a continuous improvement culture.

A true leader and people person, your other key focus is to support and develop high performing teams in line with our company values and policies with an aim to engage, motivate, train, and develop our people so we may delight our customers through delivering excellence.

As well as managing the day-to-day operation we would expect the successful applicant to also contribute to our strategic logistics targets and be part of a management team to help deliver our ambitious growth plans.

This position is based on 40 hours per week, over office hours or as needed by the business

You’ll help us by:

  • Overseeing the resource plan for the DC on a weekly basis, utilising and agreeing forecasting tool(s) with Merchandising and the Senior Logistics Manager
  • Understanding and supporting long term resource requirements of the DC, proactively taking action to ensure resource is planned to meet output targets
  • Overseeing the Team Managers with regard to all picking, packing, and shipping operations including wholesale, online, retail, staff orders and partner picks. Ensuring customer expectations and business expectations are met or exceeded, communicating any risk to plan in a timely manner to key stakeholders
  • Overseeing the returns processing operation for online customers and wholesale returns are processed to plan, ensuring customer and business expectations are met
  • Having a clear understanding of the ERP and shipping systems and ensuring DC KPI’s are understood by the Team Managers, monitored, and met
  • Working alongside the DC HR Business Partner to address any People concerns with the Team Managers, providing relevant and up to date advice in line with our policies and procedures
  • Working alongside the Stock & Systems Manager to ensure planning and implementation is effective for new and existing partners
  • Reviewing any recruitment decisions made by Team Managers to ensure new starters fit with our high expectations, values and culture
  • Supporting and coaching Team Managers in relation to working practices and leadership
  • Acting as a role model to Team Managers and Warehouse Assistants, promoting appropriate behaviours and encouraging a fair and inclusive working environment where people feel safe and secure to work
  • Ensuring there is a culture of succession planning and supporting Team Managers to develop future leaders
  • Deputising for the Senior Logistics Manager in their absence when required
  • Contributing to creating and recommending strategic plans and reviews in order to achieve operational objectives
  • Ensuring Team Managers multi skill their team members to maximise efficiency and cross functionality of team members.

The skills you’ll besharingwith the team:

An experienced and proactive people manager with a background in logistics, distribution or retail, you’ll be great at motivating, developing and leading your team to deliver. You’ll know how to get the most out of people and build relationships across the business. With knowledge of current HR legislation and employment law, you’ll be familiar with people processes such as disciplinary or performance reviews. You’ll also have previous experience of operational management and able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.


Excellent organisation, planning and communication skills will be key, as is a meticulous attention to detail. Comfortable in a fast-moving environment, you’ll be able to manage change and ambiguity positively and adapt quickly.
