Disability and Neurodiversity

The Disability and Neurodiversity team is looking for a full-time Disability Mentor Adviser (Mental Health) to join the team on a one year fixed-term basis, in the first instance. We are looking for a highly experienced specialist to ensure students with mental health conditions receive outstanding support through individually tailored mentoring, advice and guidance.

Additionally, a core aspect of this post is to act as an adviser to disabled students and applicants and the wider University community, and to work on a range of projects to improve student experience. Working as part of a dedicated and holistically minded team, such activities will include developing and delivering staff training and development across the institution, as well as guidance and study resources.

About you

As the mentoring aspect of the role is funded by the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), it is essential that candidates meet the DfE qualification and professional body membership requirements to undertake the role of a Specialist Mentor for students with mental health condition. Knowledge of the needs of, and experience of supporting, students with mental health conditions in a Higher Education setting is essential, as is the ability to work independently and as a team member.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of developments within the HE sector and demonstrate resilience in a time of change. Under the guidance of the Head of Disability and Neurodiversity, and the team’s Senior Advisers, the successful candidate will promote good practices across the institution and be able to work flexibly, sometimes outside of core hours, and across the year.
