About ARU:
ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. We are ranked in the world’s top 350 HEIs in the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and in the top ten mainstream universities in the country for the proportion of UK undergraduates in employment 15 months after graduating. We have campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford, London and Peterborough with around 2,500 staff and 35,000 students from 180 countries. With a focussed civic mission, we are committed to working with others through education, research and knowledge exchange to enhance the economic, cultural and social wellbeing of the communities in which we work and live.

About the Role:
The Faculty of Health, Education, Medicine and Social Care is the largest provider of health, social care and education courses in the East of England with 400 staff serving nearly 5,000 students. We are proud to train doctors in the first School of Medicine in Essex. Our courses have been designed with students in mind. They learn through the use of high-end facilities which mirror real-life clinical situations, are educated by award winning academics and graduate with the skills to positively impact people’s lives.

We are seeking to appoint a full or part-time Director to lead our newly developed Medical Technology Research Centre (MTRC), one of the research institutes in our University which aims to research and develop novel biomedical technology solutions for healthcare, pharmaceuticals, medical engineering, medical informatics and medical devices sectors.

This is a new role for the University so presents an exciting opportunity for a successful academic researcher and innovator to play a significant role in realising our ambitions in the medical technology and life sciences sectors.

You will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the Centre, including managing its financial position, ensuring good governance, and setting the appropriate academic and planning agendas.

You will co-ordinate across academic and professional services areas within ARU and externally, with a range of public and private sector organisations and businesses to ensure that ARU is recognised as the thought and practice leader of a thriving medical technology research, innovation and impact community in the East of England and further afield.
