About The RoleBase Location: Flexible UK | We’re proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception.Salary: £118,200 - £177,400 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options availableLeading a growing directorate of circa 200+ employees, the Director of Operations will be a key member of the Distributed Energy Leadership Team, supporting the development, delivery and long-term ownership of a wide range of Large Capital Projects comprising of a range of energy solutions for a diverse range of clients, including local authorities.The Director of Operations is accountable for ensuring the safe and efficient construction and long-term operation of all existing and new assets within the SSE Distributed Energy business across our Electric Vehicle, Heat, Electricity Network, Solar and Battery (Behind the Meter) assets and across all Major Projects.This role will lead cross-business effort to develop and implement a “Business Readiness” strategy which ensures that all functions within their accountability are prepared to develop, build operate and maintain new assets within our 5 year business plan.The key responsibilities will be;
  • Drive a safety culture that will constructively challenge unsafe behaviour and encourage the development of positive behaviour in line with the SSE 2022+ SHE Vision.
  • Lead in the preparation, mobilisation and execution of Silver Command emergency response activities as necessary.
  • Ensure all work is carried out against an agreed budget and programme for all engineering, construction and asset management activities, developing and delivering local budget outperformance strategies for our business.
  • Lead, motivate and empower all levels of staff within Operations to achieve their full potential, ensuring that this is a Great Place to Work. Define, create and deploy various initiatives ensuring the appropriate skill sets and cultures are embedded to improve operations, whilst ensuring effective development of people and structures to optimise performance and delivery at all times.
  • Safely and efficiently construct a wide range of projects and assets ranging in scale and complexity (including Large Capital Projects), leading teams of Project Managers to successfully execute delivery contracts, including NEC3/4, to programme, cost, and SHE performance targets.
  • Develop and deliver a business readiness plan which demonstrates all of the actions needed to be taken to adequately prepare our business to excel in the delivery and long term management of all projects.
What do I need?To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
  • Extensive experience in senior leadership positions across operational functions.
  • Strong project and operational safety knowledge.
  • Extensive experience in managing commercial/contractual risks.
  • Board-level experience, communicating with authority and representing across industry forums.
  • Breadth of working knowledge of energy projects and portfolio products of multi-utility network operations and maintenance, and customer service functions.
