East Durham College is looking for an experienced and talented Estates and Facilities Director to lead and deliver the college’s vision to support an ambitious curriculum to all by co-creating excellent learning environments that fully engage staff, students, visitors and industry and that facilitates social prosperity for the region we serve.

Utilising the resources of more than over 50 directly employed staff, supported by various external contractors, the Estates & Facilities Services team is responsible for delivering a full estates and facilities management service to the college, including capital development, property maintenance, cleaning, security, caretaking, transport and grounds maintenance.

The services relates to 3 campuses:

  • Our Willerby Grove Campus at Peterlee which is approximately 12 years old and includes a gym, nursery, restaurant and theatre.
  • Our specialist land based campus at Houghall, on the outskirts of Durham.
  • Our Technical Academy which is based in leased premises also in Peterlee.


The estate is undergoing a transformation led by the college leadership group, with projects to deliver a new Technical Academy at Peterlee as well as new teaching and learning facilities at our Houghall campus.

You will have strong leadership skills and proven experience in building cross functional, collaborative teams and environments. Driving excellence in compliance, capital projects and sustainability and you will play a pivotal role in the College Management Group.

Essential Requirement:

  • Professional, technical, or academic qualification at Level 5 or above
  • Evidence of CPD relevant to the post

Desirable Criteria:

  • Leadership and Management qualification
  • Appropriate Health and Safety qualification
