We are seeking aDirector, External R&D Global Project and Portfolio Manager to join our Oncology R&D team based at one of our dynamic sites in Gaithersburg, MD, Waltham, MA, or Cambridge, UK.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead External R&D project and portfolio management including Oncology external collaboration’s budget, contract and timeline management.
  • Support critical initiatives driven by External R&D, e.g. Heme preferred sites network, Partners of Choice network, internal Oncology Congress. Coordinate ongoing efforts with Academic Investigators as part of global and local academic ecosystem build.
  • Support efforts to ensure that AZ is using the best investigators and sites in a strategic manner. Build relationships with Key External Experts and support staff at key alliance sites.
  • Manage key alliance site specific information by maintaining collaboration dashboards, including ongoing studies from pre-clinical, translational and clinical, both AstraZeneca sponsored and Externally Sponsored Research studies.
  • Support External Collaborations by partnering with internal stakeholders to acquire project team decisions and coordinating feedback to external investigators.
  • Work closely with internal partners across the enterprise in support of external R&D objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Ideally focused in life sciences or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of relevant pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience with at least 3 years of related experience in legal, finance, contract development & administration, business development, licensing, strategic planning, research, development, commercial or manufacturing.
  • Experienced with timeline and finance tracking tools such as PLANIT and Purchase Order management.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the drug development process relevant to global pharmaceutical/biotech organizations.
  • Ability to lead and/or resolve issues, risks, and conflicts in a timely manner through phenomenal listening skills and the capability to ask the right questions. Solution-oriented mentality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and dedicated team player. Capacity to work cross-functionally and to influence people without direct authority. Proven display of soft skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse teams.
  • Ability to initiate, develop and implement innovative strategies and processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree including MBA. PMP certification a plus.
  • Demonstrable abilities to translate complex contract terms and conditions into strategic and operational elements.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding objectives, goals and targets.
  • Dynamic, team oriented, and partners well with all management and leadership.

Ability to travel up to 15% of the time, including internationally if required.
