Digital production editor, features


The Times and The Sunday Times are looking for a digital production editor for the features department.


The successful candidate will work with features desks and colleagues in design and pictures to produce our digital editions.


You will be an experienced digital editor who has worked in a production role at a national newspaper or for a digital publisher, with expertise of publishing on digital platforms.

Responsibilities


  • Take responsibility for producing the website and app

  • Work with the features desks and colleagues in design and pictures to produce the digital editions as efficiently as possible, meeting deadlines

  • Be part of the revise structure, revising copy, rewriting headlines and giving feedback where appropriate to sub-editors

  • Forward planning

  • Be flexible and committed, coming up with ideas about how to improve the edition

  • The job will involve regular working in the newsroom



Skills and experience


  • Experience as a senior sub-editor on a national newspaper or magazine with demonstrable knowledge of digital and across a wide range of features content

  • High level of expertise in publishing on digital platforms

  • Imaginative in writing punchy headlines and other digital furniture. Appreciation of the need for strong visuals

  • Expert understanding of SEO, audience strategy, growing subscriptions/reducing churn, improving engagement and using data analytics to meet newsroom goals

  • Strong sub-editor who can work across platforms with a proven ability to edit copy quickly, accurately and to the highest standards

  • Management experience and the ability to motivate and direct a team

  • Persuasive presentation skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to problem-solve and negotiate positive outcomes

  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

  • A strong understanding of editorial compliance, legal and regulatory issues
