Your Impact:

We have a new and exciting opening for a Digital Lead.

You will be a critical member of our Digital team who will work alongside our world class engineering experts to build and run a huge range of products that codify engineering knowledge and really make a difference to the world.

Our software has been used to design major infrastructure projects, manage the most complex networks (such as water supply and treatment), drive critical engineering workflows and beyond. This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for the right candidate.

You will be a part of Jacobs Digital who exist alongside an extensive portfolio of projects working with major clients across all sectors; an exciting boutique working in new ways with the support of wider Jacobs.

Digital is responsible for incubating, building and running new products and solutions for our customers - meaning you are joining a team of fast-moving problem solvers working on varied and interesting challenges. Our products range from established software to nascent ideas sparking into life; leveraging Lean Start-up to rapidly invest and incubate new products. We are a diverse team of technical experts from a range of backgrounds; you don’t need to come from an engineering background to succeed here.

The team is currently experiencing unprecedented growth and success. We are looking for an outstanding candidate to join the Digital Factory leadership team to join and help steer our exciting journey.

The Digital lead is a senior role within the team, reporting directly to the Digital Factory director. You are an expert who will work with our community of practice leads to ensure delivery of world class products and solutions, working with a squads of capable developers, data scientists, designers and beyond.

You will be a technical leader continuously striving to drive best practice and embody digital cultures such as Agile and Lean Start-up.
The successful applicant will become a senior part of a respected and hardworking team, providing support to clients and other team members alike. We will look to you to assess new ideas from a technical perspective, considering both customer need and technical architecture. You will drive product transition through the development lifecycle from alpha, through beta to live, with an ability to articulate and promote value proposition and strategy to wider stakeholders. The successful candidate will work closely with software developers, data scientists, UI/UX Designers, Sales and Operations teams as the interface for the Digital Factory. Applicants should be keen problem solvers with technical depth and demonstrable strategic thinking. Our Digital family is growing rapidly and we are looking for hungry folk to join and help evolve and drive journey this transformational journey.

This is a real greenfield development opportunity, you’ll be working on triaging ‘new stuff’, as well as leading the implementation of new systems in a number of really critical areas. As a Digital Lead you’ll take technical ownership over the products, features and services your team is responsible for, being curious at heart with a desire to make things better in partnership with product managers or business units. You’ll prioritise a focus on being ‘one team’ with a passion for nurturing, coaching and sharing your knowledge with others whilst ensuring high quality code is delivered in line with project goals and delivery cycles and thrive using agile methods.

Responsibilities

• Design and development of new technical solutions for our products
• Developing, maintaining and supporting our existing SaaS applications
• Driving best practice standards in development; from ways of working through to test and governance
• Ensuring consistency in planning around resource management and billable services; managing client relationships where we offer consultative services adjacent to core product build
• Working with varied stakeholders to draw out opportunities and generate new ideas; working autonomously to shape problems and solutions from a technical perspective
• Supporting and mentoring junior team members

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• 10+ years proven grounding leading technical (development, data science) teams, with experience in technology’s such as C#/.net, javascript, SQL, Python, Cloud etc
• Strong understanding of front end build and back end software engineering, including hosting and security practices
• Driving best practice and implementation around agile and how we work
• Understanding of governance frameworks; working with global teams to champion and unify best practice around areas including test, CI/CD, security, architecture, service desk
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to manage global stakeholders and teams, within Digital, within operating businesses, and through to customers
• A leader with initiative and the ability to work autonomously
• Appreciation of modern technologies, patterns and services; from cloud, to api economies, microservices, serverless compute etc
