Job OverviewThis post provides an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated HCSW to join the friendly haemodialysis unit team in caring for individuals with chronic kidney disease.The successful applicant will undertake an indepth inhouse training programme to develop the skills required to enable them to prepare the haemodialysis machines for each patient, assess and carry out haemodialysis treatments and conclude their treatments as a main aspect to the role.The post holder will work under the guidance of a registered nurse at all times and be able to work as part of a team.It is advisable for all applicants to contact the Dialysis unit for an informal visit and gain further insight in to the role and meet the team.Main duties of the jobJob Summary/Job Purpose:The post holder will be required to carry out a wide range of duties involving direct and non-direct care of patients on the dialysis unit.Assist and support patients and registered nurses in the safe preparation, delivery and completion of dialysis treatments.The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.Working for our organisationIf you relish a challenge, have a passion to help others or simply fancy a fresh start, then Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) North Wales, has all the right ingredients.   • Be confident in the opening up procedure on the dialysis unit in the absence of a trained nurse.
  • To undertake training and competencies to ensure safe practice in the field of haemodialysis care.
  • Be trained and confident in the process of required cleaning schedules for the dialysis machines in use on the unit.
  • Have the knowledge and skills to line and prime the dialysis machine in preparation for patient treatments.
  • Carry out patient observations and report any abnormalities to the registered nurse / nurse in charge.
  • Understand the parameters for each patient’s safe dialysis treatment and programme the dialysis machine accordingly.
  • Carry out venepuncture to enable the commencement of dialysis treatments.
Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria
  • QCF Level 3 Renal or equivalent experience in renal care
  • NVQ3 in Health & social Care or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • All wakes HCSW induction framework
ExperienceEssential criteria
  • Experience of working as a renal HCSW on a Dialysis Unit
