The Role

Based at our modern Head Office in Huddersfield, we have a vacancy for a Design Manager to join our Architectural Design Team made up of 22 Architects and Technologists of varying experience from university graduates to more seasoned & fully qualified professionals.

This opportunity would suit a highly experienced Senior Architectural Technologist looking for their next career step or existing Design Manager who has excellent knowledge of building regulations and a keen eye for technical detailing. The role is very much hands-on, overseeing (and on occasions working on) the production of working drawings and technical documents/reports, advising and guiding the team and bringing on the less experienced architectural staff. In addition, this role requires experience of team management and delivery including monitoring of deadlines, managing workload, timescales, etc as well as ensuring compliance with current legislation.

You will coordinate and manage the production of the working drawings, details, specifications and reports and be responsible for ensuring clashes on drawings and layouts are highlighted, specifications are adhered to and build type and design are scrutinised, through design reviews and Quality Assurance checking prior to client issue

The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to the ongoing development and review of company standards and policies. Good client liaison skills and effective communication skills are essential. The role will involve some client facing activities, attendance at meetings, visits to site etc.

A varied role including:

    Overseeing the technical detailing and quality control of the team’s drawings & details
    Providing high level technical advice to existing team whilst supporting and training of less experienced staff
    Work on a variety of social housing projects through all RIBA plan of works
    Produce and oversee high-quality drawings on AutoCAD & Revit
    Attendance at Client and Contractor Design/Technical review meetings
    Management of RFI’s and IRS’s

Ideal Candidate:

    High level construction technical knowledge
    Proficient user AutoCad, SketchUp, Photoshop and InDesign (proficient in Revit preferable)
    MCIAT qualified preferable
    Proven experience in a comparable Design Office environment
    A thorough knowledge of UK Building Regulations is essential (to include all stages of the RIBA plan of works)
    Excellent interpersonal, communication and written articulation skills
    Excellent attention to detail
    A team player with the determination to drive projects forward
