Through our unique offering, providing services from feasibility and design, to construction and handover, our Water business provides ‘Full Asset Lifecycle Thinking’ across our projects, in both the clean and wastewater environments. Always ensuring we are supporting our customers with innovative outcome-based solutions and an exceptional experience. We currently deliver infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects for 10 of the largest national water sector companies.

The Design Manager is responsible for the coordination and production of designs for multi-disciplinary water and wastewater projects (treatment and / or infrastructure) for UK clients.

What you’ll be doing day to day

  • Provision of engineering design solutions from inception to completion, of multi-disciplinary projects, utilising in-house resources, design partners, and construction personnel
  • Supporting Senior Design Managers to ensure programme and commercial compliance of design appointments
  • Supporting Senior Design Managers to ensure compliance with relevant nmcn operating procedures and business processes
  • Providing information to Principal Engineers to ensure appropriate technical governance is applied to all designs
  • Providing information to Principal Engineers to ensure scheme designs adhere to client specifications and standards, operational requirements and retain appropriate levels of operational security
  • Providing information to Principal Engineers to ensure full compliance with relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Supporting innovation, value engineering and digital design, offering advice to clients with regard to potential solutions with best whole life cost, challenging design partners and supply chain to ensure cost effectiveness in design activities and solutions through the nmcn TOTEX process
  • Working in conjunction with nmcn’s delivery teams to promote integrated project delivery
  • Scoping project requirements through documentation review, site visits and client / supplier discussions
  • Working with external design companies, supply chain and where applicable, clients’ designers
  • Mentoring and developing design engineers where appropriate

The experience we’re looking for in a candidate

  • Industry applicable professional qualifications in chosen engineering discipline
  • Working knowledge of water and sewage treatment
  • Working knowledge of multi-disciplinary engineering design
  • Commercial and contractual awareness
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft packages
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong customer focus
