Main Contracting – Construction

Salary up to £65,000 (DOE) plus company car / car allowance & package

The Company

You will be working for an established main contractor that have continued to grow from strength to strength in the current environment. They have won work in multiple sectors through competitive tenders and the negotiation of contracts. Sectors of work include Education, Care, Student Accommodation and Commercial works. They are now seeking a Design Manager to join their team on a permanent basis.

They have a full order book until the end of 2022.

Experience of Education build schemes would be highly beneficial.

The Role

You will be working between the Design and Pre-Construction teams on new build projects. You will be implementing and completing tracking registers for design decisions, producing notices of non compliance and derogation schedules. You will have previous Bids / Contracts experience and have the ability to identify risk against feasible design. The role will involve liaising with clients on multiple elements of the role and be able to demonstrate excellent problem solving skills.

Duties Will Include

Co-ordinate the design and planning from tender stage through to project delivery

Help develop innovative and cost effective design solutions in conjunction with the design team

Adopt a proactive approach to value engineering throughout the design phase

Develop and manage the programmes for the production of information for both procurement and construction purposes

Analyse risks and opportunities

Hold regular design team meetings

Review of designs and cost planning

Managing & monitoring of design & planning development

Develop relationships with client

What You’ll Need To Succeed

You will have a good technical understanding of drawings and experience of managing design resource. You will have a strong main contracting background managing construction projects ideally in the Care, Education, Student Accommodation and Commercial sectors.

Experience in a similar role, preferably with a Main contractor

A proven track record of undertaking Design Manager duties at both tender and construction stages.

Design and Build experience

Single and Two stage Tenders

Proficient in the use of Navisworks Manage, BIM Risk Registers and 4Projects

Excellent communication skills, both at the personal level and more formal reporting level

Project values will vary between £3m - £30m

Salary And Benefits

On offer is a basic Salary up to £65k (Dependant on experience) plus a company car/car allowance and an attractive package is also offered for the successful candidate.
