Job Title: Design Engineer Reporting to: Lead Design Engineer
Location: Crewkerne, Somerset
Salary: Up to £43,000 p.a. plus Bonus Role Summary: To lead the design and development on new and existing projects, including Battery Packs and Chargers, focussing on mechanical structures and enclosures, wiring looms and current paths. Key Responsibilities for Design Engineer-Working with the Design Team on new designs to define and clarify requirements
  • Create and control technical files for new designs and existing products
  • Creating and controlling CAD models and ensuring these are updated as the design progresses
  • Creating detailed design specifications and supporting designs in to production
  • Supporting the Design Team on project documentation providing input in to FMEA’s and control plans
  • Participate in regular design reviews, communicating with the team and providing solutions to problems
  • Provide specialist technical recommendations for safety and performance within the project
  • Share information with colleagues and produce recommendations through participation in regular meetings, development of project documents and production of technical reports
  • Present work in a format that will encourage successful implementation, and high quality and repeatable outputs
  • Selection of appropriate key components including fuses, cables and connectors based on current profile
  • Supporting the development and introduction of new equipment and manufacturing methods, being actively involved at a hands-on level involving assembly and testing
  • Manage research aspects of the project and working closely on new designs with systems and electronics engineers
  • Reviewing and producing battery drawings and BoMs to ensure they meet requirements Skills & Qualifications for Design Engineer:
  • BEng Hons degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, e.g. Engineering, Physics or related discipline
  • Ability to read and interpret design requirements and drawings
  • A good understanding of battery pack development and/or battery cell design and manufacture
  • Ability to deliver rapid, commercially focused results, with problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, presentation and training skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues and project partners
  • Ability to initiate, plan, organise, implement and deliver programmes of work to tight deadlines Experience for Design Engineer:
  • Significant experience working with 3D CAD (Solidworks preferably)
  • Building electrical assemblies and sub-assemblies
  • Writing and supporting FMEAs and control plans
  • Experimental design, data analysis and interpretation
  • Supporting engineering projects
  • Providing recommendations for process improvements
  • A high level of attention to detail with previous experience of record-keeping for quality purposes and traceability
  • Using all Microsoft office packages and familiar with ERP systems Interviews available immediately for the most suitable Design Engineer
