Design Engineer

Aerospace

£45,000 to £50,000 per annum

My client is Designing and Developing next-generation electric motor technology and IP for the rapidly-growing aerospace market. You could be involved in radically speeding up the adoption of electric propulsion, which will help revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free electric air transportation.

As part of this growth phase, we are looking for Design Engineers to join the team to perform design and implementation of a whole range of electric motors for key customer projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

· Developing ideas and design solutions to practical challenges arising from new product design

· Detail and design of 3D and 2D CAD models and drawings using best practice geometric tolerances, key characteristics and drawing standards

· Performing material selection and mechanical FEA analysis on components and assemblies

· Providing detailed input to the team to ensure the overall design meets requirements for functionality and manufacture

· Supporting the development of manufacturing processes and novel designs for new technology applications and materials

· Supporting DFMEAs and complete actions required to mitigate risks

· Supporting new business opportunities with information and guidance on use, packaging, and application of motors

· Liaising with key suppliers and customers on design and development issues, resolving to the optimal solution and understanding the compromises.

Skills and experience required:

· Degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering with proven experience in a design and development environment

· Strong mechanical or electrical engineering background, but more importantly, be able to apply knowledge to real-world situations

· Experienced in the use of SolidWorks CAD software package with the ability to create design concepts and fully dimensioned drawings working with best practice geometric tolerances and key characteristics

· Ability to undertake and interpret mechanical FEA studies and propose solutions/improvements to design issues

· Experience with drawing control systems such as PDM

· Familiarity with FMEAs and robust engineering practices

· Understand design for assembly and constraints for high volume manufacture

· Creative problem-solving abilities with an analytical approach to implementation

· A flexible approach to work with the desire to thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment

· Good understanding of materials and associated mechanical properties and processing

· Confident with customers and suppliers and able to detail requirements and understand issues

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· UK driving licence and be available to support visits to customer sites.
