We are looking to appoint a Part Time Specialist in Orthodontics (Band C)

Salary Band C - £89,174 - £102,479

Based at: Royal Alexandra Hospital, Rhyl

3.75 hours per week equating to 2 days per month

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated team player with excellent communication skills.

To provide specialist care in an identified clinical discipline.

To perform other duties as specified to meet the needs of the service.

To develop and maintain services designed to identify patients requiring treatment within the specialty.

To lead in an identified specialist field within the service as required.

To provide training and/or supervision associated with specialist and allied clinical disciplines to a range of staff.

Working for our organisation

Most clinical staff are trained in Inhalation Sedation, a service offered by dentists and therapists at most of our sites. IV sedation services are also available and the Community Dental Service operates general anaesthetic services at the three District General Hospitals. We are also supported by a visiting Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry from Alder Hey Hospital.

We currently host three DCT(1)s per annum and have a Speciality Trainee post in Special Care Dentistry. All final year dental students from Cardiff Dental School attend the Outreach Student Training Scheme operating at Wrexham Dental Centre (to recommence September 2021).

Enhanced services include an Intermediate Tier Dentoalveolar Surgery Service and the provision of Special Care Dentistry support to the Head and Neck Cancer MDT. Direct Access and Inhalation Sedation training for Therapists is provided and we are committed to expanding our skill mix models. A number of preventative oral health promotion programmes operate: Designed to Smile (an all-Wales Programme targeting children in the most deprived areas of Wales); Gwên am Byth (Care Home Programme); Mouth Care in Hospitals (1000 Lives) and Child and Adult Learning Disability Programmes.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Full registration with the General Dental Council
  • Bachelor in Dental Surgery or equivalent
  • Registration on GDC Specialist List relevant to post
  • Proven maintenance of post-graduate continuing professional development
  • Documented recent training in Child Protection and POVA*
  • Radiation Protection/IRMER certification

Desirable criteria

  • Post-graduate qualification relating to a specific clinical skill
  • Membership of a professional organisation/learned society relating to the clinical skill
  • Clinical education/teaching qualification
  • Management qualification
  • ECDL or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience in CDS, GDS and/or HDS
  • Experience in pain and anxiety control as appropriate to specialty
  • Proven track record in specialty area
  • Experience in Risk Management
  • Committee experience
  • Experience of teaching, training, supervising and mentoring of other staff
  • Producing reports and/or papers
  • Clinical audit/Peer review

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in other dental discipline(s)
