The Division Quality Director is responsible to develop and drive tactics to improve quality performance, execute risk mitigation, and implement Quality Management Systems throughout the organization. The Division Quality Director as the leader for all quality-related activities, will partner with senior leaders to ensure priorities are fully aligned, understood, communicated, and implemented throughout the organization. This individual will have substantial experience in leadership and must be very comfortable in presenting to all levels of management including the Division Management Board. This position reports to the Division Vice President Quality & HSE.

This role is open for the new incumbent to based near the John Crane office in Slough

The Division Quality Director as the leader for all quality-related activities, will partner with senior leaders to ensure priorities are fully aligned, understood, communicated, and implemented throughout the organization. This individual will have substantial experience in leadership and must be very comfortable in presenting to all levels of management including the Division Management Board. This position reports to the Division Vice President Quality & HSE.

The Individual

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a Technical Discipline.
  • 15 to 20 years Quality / Operations / Engineering experience in management role in a world-class manufacturing setting, with demonstrated success in both quality leadership and business process excellence.
  • Experience must be from a company that has multiple sites globally and having leadership working experience across several sites.
  • Demonstrated performance in leadership quality roles with oversight in multi-site, multi-national environments.
  • Proven capability to lead large cross functional, global teams in problem solving, process improvements, and solution implementation.
  • Experience in understanding supplier development and management.
  • Knowledgeable and hands on experience in the application of Lean or Six Sigma including at least some of the following tools: Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S, Root Cause analysis, 8D, FMEA, Cause and Effect Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
  • Certification such as Black Belt, ISO Lead Auditor is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated skills must include global leadership abilities, strong written and oral communication, resource management, problem solving, process improvement, conflict resolution and process development / deployment administration and change management.
  • Travel: International and domestic up to 35%.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
  • Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.
  • Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.

Additional Information

Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.


  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor
