Data Innovation Lead: Our Enterprise Data Services (EDS) function in Eastleigh have an exciting opportunity for a Data Innovation Lead to join the Data Science and Operations Team. The successful candidate will lead a team of developers in the building, testing and production of both prototype and production data and analytics solutions, delivering across all areas of the organisation with a heavy focus on a cloud-first development approach. In addition, you will be responsible for understanding and translating business requirements as well as consulting with customers and stakeholders on the ‘art of the possible’ for data solutions.

As a Data Innovation Lead your team are responsible for building and championing innovative data products utilising existing and new technologies for Ageas UK. The Data Science and Operations Team utilise an industry leading Cloud Data Science platform, this role will contribute to the growth and expansion of this platform within Ageas UK

Please note we will consider remote working for this role, however, travel to our Eastleigh office will be required approximately once per month.

Main Responsibilities as Data Innovation Lead:

  • Work closely with Product Owners / Customer Leads to understand functional / non-functional requirements of a system / service / product.
  • Driving innovation in technology & product ideas and proactively exploring opportunities to add value to the overall organisation.
  • Lead and participate in the design and development of “Test and Learn” prototype products and data solutions.
  • Work closely with the ML Engineering Lead to implement Advanced Analytical models into data products where appropriate.
  • Monitor, track and report on past and in-flight prototypes and production solutions.
  • Liaise with Data Engineering and Architecture colleagues to provide a legitimate path to production on successful data product prototypes.
  • Liaise with data / analytics SME’s within the organisation to facilitate delivery of expert content.
  • Coaching / mentoring the lab team towards individual and team development / growth.
  • You will be managing one direct report plus contractor source as appropriate

Skills and experience you need as Data Innovation Lead

  • Minimum of 2 - 3years’ experience in a similar data or engineering role(s).
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a relevant field - desirable
  • Previous experience of project management or business analysis - desirable
  • Line management experience is preferable but not mandatory
  • Experience wih Cloud Computing Environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.
  • Highly collaborative approach, managing internal resources to ensure timely delivery.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring Junior Developers
  • Must be able to translate and communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
