The School of Science and Engineering has an international reputation for excellent teaching and topical research, particularly in addressing global challenges in energy, the environment, health care, technology, forensic science and infrastructure.

The Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science is a 10 year £10 Million project with the remit to disrupt positively the current forensic science ecosystem. As a key appointment in the £10m Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science you will help to reinforce the scientific validity of evidence in the courtroom.

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Data Engineer/Developer within our LRCFS, to develop software tools, applications and systems for emerging areas of research within Forensic Science.

The role includes developing software to support research related to gathering large data sets, development of pattern recognition tools for analytical and image-based data and user-friendly applications for complex mathematical calculations.

We seek an individual with a talent for innovation, willing to look at innovative ways to solve complex data acquisition, analysis, curation and management problems.
Your priorities will include:
  • Lead on the development of data analytic solutions for bespoke research areas and challenges
  • Produce full system documentation in line with standards, keep abreast of developments in the standards and modelling community for sensitive data
  • Lead on and ensure the maintenance of data governance, the use of privacy enhancing technologies, trusted third parties and other methods essential for the safe use of personal data if required
  • Line management of DevOp Analyst
  • Lead on the management and growth of LRCFS open data infrastructure, including development of our data management strategy
Who we’re looking for:
  • Object Orientated Programming (JavaScript (NodeJS, Express, React, React Native), PHP, C#, C++, Java, Python, Object relational mappers (ORMs)
  • Git version control (GitHub)
  • Linux Server Management (CentOS)
  • Track record of database technology development and data management
  • User interface design (UI/UX development)
