Corrosion Chemist – Project and Technical Leaders

Are you an experienced and dynamic lab-based Scientist seeking a new challenge and would like to take on a leadership role in advancing corrosion science within the oil and gas sector? Our client, an internationally recognised Independent Global Chemical Testing Laboratory and Consultancy, is offering an exciting opportunity for Corrosion Specialists to join a dynamic and motivated group of technical experts in Livingston, Scotland. With vacancies at Technical Leader and Project Leader levels, the successful candidates will drive technical excellence and provide strong project delivery skills.

About the Role:

Level of corrosion expertise, experience of technical direction and leadership responsibilities differentiate these two roles.

Both positions will play a pivotal role in their corrosion team, engaging in routine testing and applied research for the oil, gas & energy industry. These positions offer a fantastic opportunity to contribute your expertise to customer-focused initiatives and be part of a dynamic and motivated team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Testing in High Temperature/High Pressure conditions
  • Designing and implementing new test protocols relating to routine and R+D activities
  • Successfully managing priorities and delivery targets to tight deadlines
  • Interpreting data and reporting
  • Customer liaison including technical updates, reporting and presentation of results
  • Project management
  • Management or supervision of scientists working on the projects
  • Opportunities for involvement in the publishing of technical papers

Working Patterns and Benefits:

They offer a variety of working patterns upon completion of probation, including a compressed week and 9-day fortnight. Additionally, there are opportunities for travel and secondments to international laboratories.

The ideal candidate:

Essential skills/experience

  • Minimum of an honours degree in Chemistry, Geochemistry or a related discipline with an understanding of electrochemistry and materials science
  • Knowledge of corrosion inhibition and testing
  • Experience of working in laboratory
  • Self-management
  • Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Project management and staff supervision

Desirable skills/experience

  • A working knowledge of relevant oil and gas sector laboratory techniques standards such as ASTM, API and NACE would be an advantage as would use of corrosion prediction software
  • Experience in writing, publishing and presenting relevant industry papers
  • For more senior roles, industry experience and/or PhD would be advantageous
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001

Their specialist services include chemical/fluid qualification, formation damage and reservoir simulation projects, R+D initiatives, specialised equipment manufacture, and production chemistry consultancy services & training courses.
