Corporate Pensions Actuary

Are you an experienced Pensions Actuary ready to progress your career and gain in-house experience with the 2021 Pensions Age Awards DB Pension Scheme of the Year? We currently have a vacancy for a qualified Pensions Actuary to join our Corporate Pensions division within Head Office.

As Corporate Pensions Actuary, you will provide support on all actuarial or financial matters relating to the Company’s pension schemes. You will be responsible for aiding the development and implementation of the overall pensions strategy, covering a great breadth of actuarial work. You will gain excellent exposure working with senior leaders across a range of business functions to include Trustee Pensions, Group Finance, Human Resources, in-house investment managers and external stakeholders.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to take on an in-house role within one of the largest global defence companies where you will work with one of the top 10 largest UK pension schemes. You will join a multi-disciplinary team where your knowledge and perspective will be broadened, and you will gain excellent exposure to managing a range of projects covering various aspects of pensions provision.

We are currently working on a hybrid basis with an expectation to travel to Farnborough 1-2 days per week.

Your main responsibilities as a Corporate Pensions Actuary will involve:
  • Supporting the development of corporate valuation strategy, including internal advice on assumptions setting, developing funding plans and corporate views on investment strategy.
  • Pensions accounting co-ordination and support for internal business planning processes.
  • Developing and delivering management information in relation to pension funding, accounting and risk management.
  • Aiding company policy making on pensions issues and response to legislative issues.
  • M&A work and internal restructurings, including advice on deal structures, negotiating agreements and post-completion work.
  • Supporting de-risking projects and activities, including ALM, longevity hedging and member incentive exercises.
  • Advising on scheme design issues, both non-executive and executive arrangements.
  • Managing external adviser relationships, including monitoring commercial aspects such as contract deliverables, budgets and spend.
  • Ensuring the delivery of day to day and project work, including delegation to other team members, offering training opportunities.
Your Skills And Qualifications As a Corporate Pensions Actuary
  • Qualified Pensions Actuary (FIA/FFA) with demonstrable experience working within the pensions industry and (ideally) gained some exposure to investments.
  • Experience within pensions accounting co-ordination to include agreeing accounting treatment, setting assumptions and reviewing corporate disclosures.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders / advisers to include both Trustee and Corporate (actuaries, lawyers, investment consultants).
  • Experience managing projects or ability to demonstrate successful project collaboration with meaningful impact.
  • Proficient IT skills, including Excel and PowerPoint.
