Our client is a highly successful and well-established manufacturer with a global reputation for innovation and excellence. Their impressive, state of the art facilities, and modern working environment are second to none. They are looking for a Controls Engineer / Commissioning Engineer / Controls & Instrumentation Engineer / C&I Engineer to join their team. On occasions, this role will involve some travel to clients around the UK and worldwide. All travel will be business class, and you will be well looked after. As a Controls & Commissioning Engineer, you will be tasked with producing design documentation in accordance with customer requirements and then programming innovative systems according to the approved design documents. To complete the project, the Controls/Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the testing and commissioning of the systems on the customer premises. You will ensuring the relevant software design documents are issued in line with the build schedule and enabling agreed client deliveries to be met. You will collaborate with the Electrical Engineers and the design team to make sure quality is maintained. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with the Electrical Engineers. From providing technical support in design review meetings, to planning resource requirements and reporting on project performance, you’ll become an integral part of helping build innovative, cutting-edge systems. You will possess a good understanding of engineering principles in control system design. Being both competent and confident in all technical aspects of control system design, being able to develop special purpose machinery is a skill you’ll have gained in your previous employment within a similar precision engineering environment. With strong interpersonal skills, you’ll be comfortable and confident in communicating with both the customer and our client’s team. You will have a strong ethos of teamwork, and also have the initiative to work alone. No two projects are ever the same, you’ll happily roll up your sleeves and challenge yourself in any situation to find the right solution. Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 4.30pm (early finish on Fridays) Responsibilities:
  • Provide a high level of skill in interpreting the customer’s and regulatory requirements to ensure software designs are perfectly aligned.
  • Carry out panel/control system design as instructed by the Electrical Engineer to meet business and customers specified requirements
  • Ensure the relevant software design documents are issued in line with the schedule enabling agreed deliveries to be met.
  • Ensure that design quality is maintained throughout the project by verifying in collaboration with the Electrical Engineer and Design team that the output meets the company’s standard operating procedures.
  • Communicate accurate project status to the Electrical Engineer, internal and external customers and suppliers to ensure they can pro-actively plan.
  • Compile information and report to Electrical Engineer on the project performance relative to the departments objectives.
  • Perform the role of technical support in collaboration with the Electrical Engineer during internal and external design review meetings to ensure key design approvals are achieved in line with project schedules.
  • Plan resource requirements with the Electrical Engineer to develop the project milestones.
  • Support the machine commissioning activities in collaboration with the commissioning team to a successful FAT & SAT. Work with all colleagues to ensure compliance with ISO14001, ISO9001 and OHSAS18001 and support a culture of Innovation and Continuous Improvement by complying with appropriate Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Project manage and oversee specific projects ensuring timescales and budget requirements are met by the engineers.
  • Liaise with design engineers to design a control system that meets customer requirements
  • Perform site surveys, often involving travel abroad
  • Conduct risk assessment on Machinery
  • Liaise and work in partnership with the Client and Client technical team during the course of the project
  • Design Electrical controls panels systems from customer specifications in accordance to BS EN 60204/ BS EN ISO 13849
  • Inspect Control panels manufactured internally and externally to BS EN 60204
  • Oversee specific projects as instructed by the Electrical Engineer Requirements:
  • Apprentice trained in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering discipline and post apprenticeship software design experience
  • Possess a good understanding of engineering principles in Control System design
  • Competent (and confident) in all technical aspects of Control System design and development of special purpose machinery (ideally gained within a similar environment)
  • Experience in delivering solutions to technical problems
  • Experience in Control System design/design analysis
  • Experience of undertaking technical calculations
  • Experience of working within a multi-skilled environment (i.e. knowledge of electrical and pneumatic components)
  • Experienced in managing projects including working to tight timescales throughout the project life cycle
  • Ability to provide quality information within deadlines
  • Proactive interaction and empathy with other functions and projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, confident and capable in client facing role
  • Team-player and ability to work on own initiative
  • Willingness to travel
  • Experience in the software design of industrial automation in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of working in an innovative environment and providing innovative solutions.
  • Experience in evaluating technical requirements and providing viable solutions.
  • Experience in identifying and reporting long and short term project resource requirements.
  • The generation and verification of software design documents
  • Interpretation of customer requirements and presentation of design solutions at internal design reviews
  • Commercially aware of the effective use of resources, scope change and implications of choice.
  • Knowledge of British and international standards relative to the design and installation of industrial automation systems.
  • Experience of conducting assessments and generating technical documents to support the compliance to the Machinery Directive and other British and international standards.
  • Experience in the validation procedures and application of GAMP
  • Integration of robotics into automation solutions
  • Integration of vision systems into industrial automation
