Brief Description

To operate across the route being accountable for the effective management and successful delivery of structured continuous improvement aligned to the routes structured continuous improvement strategy and Network Rail’s framework through the deployment of Lean tools and techniques.To develop the routes continuous improvement capability through the delivery of structured training courses and coaching, sharing knowledge and best practice.

About The Role (External)

Key Accountabilities

  • Direct, develop and foster a culture of structured continuous improvement across the route in alignment with the routes structured continuous improvement strategy and Network Rail framework.
  • Delivery and engagement manager accountable for the effective management and delivery of portfolio initiatives to deliver the routes structured continuous improvement strategy.
  • Manage the provision of Lean training (and appropriate ‘awareness’ training) across the route, including Lean tools, techniques, leadership skills and behaviours.
  • Coach and mentor route team members on structured continuous improvement and Lean tools and techniques, providing coaching and support to the Lean Learning Academy delegates in the delivery of their post-academy experiments, checking these add value to the business and are strategically aligned.
  • Develop training plans to meet business targets and maintain training and capability matrices for assigned portfolios. Support the external Lead Facilitator as required.
  • Direct and drive a sustained culture of structured continuous improvement challenging existing processes, exploring new ways of working, benchmarking, observations, best practice, feedback and analysis presenting business cases for change and supporting proposals. Work with route teams to identify and improve areas of poor performance through the deployment of Lean tools and techniques.
  • Deliver and govern portfolios in line with Network Rail’s framework and benefit realisation model within agreed timeframes, quality and cost parameters, establishing reporting mechanisms to deliver regular KPI reporting, progress reports, highlighting risks to delivery and establishing countermeasures for resolution and the tracking of these are in place. Manage the delivery of defined programme activities, delivering to time, cost and quality and tracking benefits realisation.
  • Manage the route plan for ‘Better Every Day’ improvements, taking ownership of the maturity assessment and managing the delivery of associated improvement activities.
  • Work with other functions / members of the route Change team to confirm strategic alignment across the route.
Essential

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of Lean/Continuous Improvement tools, techniques and methodologies
  • Successful experience in applying Lean/Continuous Improvement tools, techniques and methodologies
  • Broad understanding of portfolio, programme, and project management methodologies.
  • Proven Stakeholder management experience.
  • Competent lean trainer and coach
  • Effective leadership qualities and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven successful influencing skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Committed to continued Lean/Continuous Improvement professional development
Desirable

  • Formal Project Management qualification (e.g. APMP Practitioner)
  • Formal Lean / Six Sigma qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Rail Industry
