FPGA design and implementation of complex functions and algorithms to deliver capability upgrades for our New Product (NGSS), a sophisticated Electronic Warfare simulator which reproduces real radar signals that are used for military mission readiness testing. The NGSS is a strategically important product line for Ultra - EWsT, it is a full upgrade to our existing RSS8000 product line which has been continuously developed to meet new requirements and is a well-established, market-leading product.
Wherever possible, we will consider a variety of working options to suit your lifestyle, whether that be hybrid home/office working, flexible working and part or full time employment. It’s the ’innovating’ and ’empowering’ values that we ASPIRE to be. We welcome the challenge to work in new ways and have trust in you when getting the job done because we recognise, our business is our people.
  • Responsible for design and development of complex Firmware.
  • Generate understandable and unambiguous Firmware requirements based on user and systems level requirements.
  • Produce high quality and robust Firmware designs and architectures to meet the Firmware requirements and Interface specifications.
  • Produce high quality design, development and implementation documentation including specifications, reports and proposals.
  • Produce documentation to show requirement traceability including verification methodologies.
  • Implement Firmware in accordance with required coding standards.
  • Implement self-checking test benches for RTL, post-synthesis and post-layout simulation of developed code.
  • Accurately estimate work of self and others; identify cost-effective solutions in terms of both development time and materials; deliver predictably and increase team’s ability to do the same.
  • Require support rather than supervision, and only for more complex tasks.
  • Engage in the multiple-discipline review of items (documents, design, code, schematics, etc.).
  • Integrate Firmware with other system components (Software or Hardware) and resolve any issues either by Firmware modification or by contributing positively to resolution by other disciplines.
  • Multi-task appropriately to serve needs of all projects.
  • Present proposals clearly and constructively debates input from others.
  • Propose and champions ideas for improvement.
  • Manage security of information.
  • This role has been assessed as Outside IR35.
  • Fully Proficient in the full life cycle Firmware development demonstrated on more than one project.
  • Fully Proficient in Firmware development using VHDL.
  • Good understanding of engineering methods and techniques and applies and adapts these as necessary to create solutions.
  • Proven experience with Engineering design methodologies. For example, the ‘V’ Model – Requirements, architecture, detailed design, Implementation, Integration, Test, Validation & Verification.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity and bit error rate issues within digital systems.
  • Ability to design for synchronous and asynchronous systems. For example System Synchronous, Source Synchronous and Asynchronous systems.
  • Experience in FPGA design ideally using AMD/Xilinx UltraScale+ FPGAs.
  • Proficient in Verification
  • Good knowledge of FPGA EDA tools and tool flow
  • Proficient in the use of industry standard communications protocols associated with communication interfaces (UARTs, USARTs, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, UDP)
  • Experience in designing with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR4 RAM, 10/40/100G Ethernet, Aurora etc.
  • Experience of working with System on Chip FPGAs such as AMD/Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+
  • Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing techniques and design for implementation in FPGA
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance to BPSS / SC level
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in Digital Electronics and Digital Logic Design.
    • Experience in developing military equipment.
    • Experience in Electronic Warfare development
